Well, you know, when Moses DID ask for directions, G_D said Moses would never enter the promised land.

(Truthfully, not QUITE like that. G_D told Moses to strike a rock to make water spring forth. This wasn’t the first time G_D told Moses to do that; but it was the first time Moses struck the rock and water didn’t immediately spring forth. So Moses struck the rock again, and yes, the water flowed, but by not being patient and waiting for the water to appear, Moses showed how little faith he had in HaShem, even after 40 years of being led and fed in the desert.)
