If I was a cartoonist I would have a scene like this:
Abraham has just stopped his knife from killing his beloved son Issac. (Angle voice has just told him to stop) Issac jumps off the altar of sacrifice and calls Social Services to report that his father has just tried to kill him.
Or Issac calls the nearest psychologist to tell him he has just experienced trauma and needs counseling asap. We live in such different times these days.
One thing I didn’t learn until I was in my mid-30s was the reason Abraham was so willing to sacrifice Isaac (note: 2 "a"s ) and Isaac didn’t seem to put up much of a fight, is that all of the surrounding cultures had gods that required the sacrifice either of the first-born or of the first-born male. (check out Ba’al and what it required.) Clearly something demonic was trying to prevent Jesus from growing up. When G_D told Abraham to sacrifice his first-born son, G_D was just acting in the way that all of the surrounding gods acted.
I’d be interested in hearing Sarah’s reaction when they came home and she asked Isaac how the camping trip with his dad went.
You’re welcome. Nothing that can’t be fixed by stopping for some ice cream on the way home and telling Isaac, “We don’t really need to tell your mom about that bit, OK?”
