oat soda:
I’ve been to a life teen mass and noticed that the teens were under-dressed and somewhat too casual. I remember the teens were dressed in t-shirts shorts/jeans and sneakers and one of the girls was chewing gum. the music was poor and too loud. This sunday, they ended the mass with the “lean on me” song. i don’t see how this is fitting. appropriate selection of music gets very subjective once you stray from traditional music, i.e. gregorian chant. for instance, why not play “living on a prayer” by bon jovi, i like that song?

I think a mass targeted to youths or teens is a great idea but we shouldn’t lower the bar as if the only way these kids can relate is with rock and roll. lets give them an appreciation of classical art and culture and not what comes out of the tv or the satan box.

i can’t tell you how sick i am of hearing from people that everything is ok as long as we love each other or Jesus. In case you haven’t noticed, the Church is a mess right now and so is society. We need to instill in our teens a healthy fear of God and a balance of his infinite mercy and justice.
Excellent, I agree. What is happening is that we are no longer teaching our youth to THINK, but rather to “feel Good” only, as if God depended only on FEELINGS.
Let me guess, this so called life teen messes began in the USA??? i.e. In the Catholic Church in the USA?

This is obviously a group of young people showing off there clean feet after the beautiful foot washing ceremony on Holy Thusrday! And look! They even washed Father’s feet.:yup:

Bottom line, to each his own, if you don’t like the Teen Life mass, don’t go. I’m sure your energy could be used somewhere else for more positives things then sitting around talking about how much better the NOM or the TLM is. Where is all the love people? Oh I forgot, we shouldn’t bring emotion into it…

Religion is not about emotion. I wouldn’t want to be the one to explain that to the Virgin Mary as she wept at the cross.
This is a total disgrace. If they wanted to have laughs in shorts, and in certain poses, they should have gone OUTSIDe, not in the Church where the tabernacle is. I am so tired of these kumbayah type of attitudes in many people in our church who are politically correct, and relativist. NOTHING is wrong anymore, and when the wrong is found, they tell us not to say because it could OFFEND. Well, tough cookies, we must point out truth for truth and wrong for wrong. I BLAME the PRIEST who allowed this.
This is the reason groups such as the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X exists. REGARDING the LITURGY, they are right. OR, if we want a real Liturgy, not a beach party IN the Church, we shouold support the Tridentine Latin Mass of the Indult:
www.ecclesiadei.org ENOUGH IS ENOUGH WITH MOCKING JESUS CHRIST in our Churches.

As far as I know we are all desciples of Christ, men and women. As far as there only being eleven, who do you think took the picture? The twelth one. What a great sense of humor you have. Oh sorry, there goes that emotion thing again. I’ll have to work on that.
RichT, you are being VERY sarcastic hear and childish. It would be in the very best interest of all of us who LOVE the CHURCH, if you would base your arguments(thesis) on TRUTH rather than on your personal opinions and yes, emotions. There are many who place thinking ABOVE emotion you know. Your defense of a ridicoulous picture as the one above makes a mockery out of the Mass, and God.
I know many who would rather attend a Hindu, service, or yoga classes, than attend any EVENT in which anything similar as above in that picture, takes place. No wonder the church is going through such a crisis here in the USA and worldwide.
That said, God bless you, and peace.

With all due respect, I feel that you are misconstruing what Life Teen actually does and believes. In Life Nights (the weekly meetings after Mass) and other events associated with Life Teen, much catechesis is presented and the teens do learn and think about their faith. However, the teens are also taught to love God and are exposed to many different Catholic devotions by which they can praise Him.

In response to “life teen messes”, I note that Cardinal Arinze did approve of the idea but corrected two abuses as noted in my earlier post. In response, Msgr. Dale (founder of LT) obeyed and is telling all of Life Teen to end these abuses in accordance with the rules set forth by the Holy See.

As for some of the dress at Life Teen, I agree with you. Some people do dress inappropriately to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. However, this problem can be corrected with more education and gentle reminders to consider what we wear when we enter God’s house.

Ideal, but pleas realize that some teens can’t attend a mass as such

Our mobility is limited to where our parents or friends parents go. Lifeteen is the only church that some kids can come in contact with because of its social aspects. Nearly everykid in my youth group, without knowing that the others were, were allowed by there parents to see the midnight showing of Harry Potter…but these are the same parents who refused to let their kids stay out until eleven on Holy Thursday…
