Why does it have to be “all or none?” Why not just learn to limit and/or control internet use?
I have plenty of hobbies, and I haven’t stopped doing them because I have internet at home.
To me, this sounds like those people who insist that we have to give up ALL sugar or ALL coffee. Maybe that’s necessary in some cases where there is a dire medical reason, but most people should be able to limit their sugar or coffee use.
I can see why people have to totally give up crack cocaine or prostitutes–these are dangerous vices that kill within a few years. But the internet, sugar, and coffee are not crack cocaine or prostitutes, and they don’t kill people when used in moderation.
There is so much good in the internet (and in sugar and coffee!)–why give it up? Just learn to control it.
I agree with all those who say that we are quickly approaching a time when internet will become more necessary to life in the United States than the mail, electricity, the internal combustion engine, etc. It would not be a wise plan at this point to give up something that will soon be a necessity.
