LifeTeen and standing around the Altar

At our parish, our oldest two were involved with the LifeTeen program. We have since pulled them out. One of the things that we were told when inquiring about the Teens standing around the Alter is that the Holy Father has given LifeTeen permission to have the Teens stand around the Alter during consecration.

We are new in the Church, so your advice would be helpful.
