Lift gay-straight group ban: Ontario Catholic board

A committee of an Ontario Catholic school board has recommended trustees drop a controversial ban on gay-straight alliance groups and, until a new one is crafted, replace it with a standardized equity policy designed for Catholic schools.

All nine members of the Halton Catholic District School Board attended the Tuesday night meeting, where most voted to use an equity policy designed for Catholic schools and provided by the Ontario Education Services Corp. It made the template to help boards create equity policies as mandated by the Ontario government in 2010.

The board came under fire this week after gay-rights activists called the board out for prohibiting the groups, which are meant to be social justice communities for both homosexual and straight students. Board chairman Alice Anne LeMay was forced to apologize after saying gay groups, just like “Nazi groups,” would not be allowed because they don’t comply with the teachings of the Church.

Trustees reached Wednesday were told to defer all media requests to the board spokesperson until Jan. 18, when the board will vote on whether to keep the current policy or work on creating a new one.

Spokeswoman Lisa Stocco said a number of boards have used the Ontario Education Services Corp. Catholic policy, localized it and passed it.

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Federation have long since stopped being any more than nominally Catholic, at least at the higher levels.

This doesn’t surprise me a bit.

Hopefully they take a stand against this bullying, and say enough is enough. Homosexuality is simply not a good thing. It’s not good for those who practice it, and it’s not good for the community.

We must tolerate evil, but we must never accept it as if it were a good.

Unless radical changes will happen in the not so far future people will be persecuted for refusal of the homosexuality.

The persecution expected to be monetary, so involving everybody who want to resist, and and would bankrupt schools, churches and other organizations.

The pride is the first vice of the evil, he wants to be accepted as good.

I hope I will die before this.
