any one heard of this before?
light-speed learning, they host a 3 day workshop, and claim up to 1.3 million words per minuet by getting both hemispheres of the brain working, and by being in alpha brainstate.

anyone do this before?

lightspeed-learning.com/

im sure they could claim you could grab psychic powers, and all that mumbo juumbo, too, and that would be possible if you change brain states. but i’m not looking for that.

all i want is reading faster, nothing else from it.

has anyone tried this before. and know what they make you do?
is it against christianity ?

from the dvd i got they talk about hypnosis, and stuff, but mainly about protecting from subliminals inregards to that, and being able to shift to diffrent brain states.

slyvia is mentioned but i don’t think that is the focous.

if its been mentioned, direct me to the post.

Sounds like a gimmick. Do you know what a million is? I mean, sure, in a way we all do, but a million millimeters are a kilometer. A million dollars in fresh ones weighs a thousand kilos – 2204.6 pounds. Even in tiny print they’d have you rolling literal miles of text past yourself every few seconds, if it worked. How realistic is that?
We can’t use every part of the brain to read. We read using the optical centers and the left cerebral cortex. The other lobes are specialized to do other things.
Every so often someone comes up with the theory that most people use just a fragment of their real brain power. Nothing ever comes of it.

sniff-sniff

I sense a high level of bovine fecality in those claims.

So I’d be able to read Moby **** about 4 times a minute. Sounds reasonable.

Wait. The website says 500,000 wpm. THat means I’d only be able to read it twice. Forget it!

I’d still fall asleep reading War and Peace. Even if it took a minute and 15 seconds.

:hypno: A novel has been defined as any cohesive work of fiction over 50,000 words. You could read one every five seconds, tossing them to the side and flipping them open in one second and reading again, ten short novels every minute. If a novella is a story of fiction just short of a novel, perhaps we could define it as at least half a novel long – 25,000 -49,999 words? So you could read ten to twenty a minute of those, and since a short story needs only a beginning, middle and end, that could be compressed into three words, so 3 – 24,999 words for short stories, meaning you could read twenty to around 16,700 of them in a minute.

Thank God for St. Ambrose, but his silent reading was meant only as a way to meditate privately, and its intimacy was special because of how it contrasted with the loud reading practices of the day. Now, everybody reads mostly junk silently and quickly to their detriment.

Speed reading takes that even further - even more junk even faster. Often, people are attracted to it because they are afraid of leaving good books unread when they die. You don’t need to be afraid of that if you are a Christian - in Heaven, our sinless communion with God’s perfect mind will be a better read than every book on Earth including the Bible as we sinners imperfectly understand it now.

Until then, read the best books many times. There aren’t that many of them. Read more slowly, out loud if you can. Discuss them and memorize them.

It sounds like it’s full of that new-age garbage about being able to “create” your destiny by controlling the universe. (BTDT)

Here’s a quote from one of the testimonials:
This workshop has the potential of shifting your awareness to encompass all that you have come here to create and manifest.
Emphasis mine. I guess reading faster will make you God.

From their FAQ:
Entrepreneurs can ‘intuit’ what their customer’s want, before the customers even know that they want it!
Oh, looky, speed-reading will give you ESP!
… a healthier, wealthier, more creative and successful way of living. What’s more, spiritual awakening is a normal consequence… it is the dawning of ‘Heaven on Earth’
Yup. Speed-reading will make you healthy, wealthy, successful… and tall, thin, and blond, too, no doubt.

And you won’t have to do anything to get to Heaven - it will come to you. After all, you’ll be your own higher power.

No. Stay away.

Isn’t Evelyn Woods still around? If I wanted to read any faster, that’s what I’d take.
