Like a thief in the night?

If Jesus says it will come as a surprise, that would seem to be realistic, because who would expect that on any given day? So it will be a surprise when it happens because noone ever expects the morning they wake up for it to be the last day of the world. Has anyone? … maybe a tiny few who were dissappointed.

I believe the message is a simple caution from Jesus not to get content with life and live it laxly, but rather live virturously and be ready any time for the call with packed suitcase.

The other consideration is about prophesy itself. Biblical prophesy is not about telling what is going to happen but rather telling about future events in a cloudy way that will only be understood and recognized after the event has taken place. “not a bone will be broken” as the psalm said, but was realized only when the Sacred Heart of Jesus was pierced instead of his legs broken as the others crucified with him had been.

The problem with this and mankind though, if Jesus said this, gave all these dire warnings of what was to come, and then over 2000 yrs go by without so much as a peep, it kind of looses its effect after so long, eventually people will just assume he is never coming back, or something changed over all those years.

With my job, I regularly get to talk to a variety of people, religion does enter the conversation from time to time, from what Ive seen and heard, many people today that say they are not religious, seem to have a problem with God/ Jesus being so ‘proactive’ back then, but in modern times, we dont see him doing things like this anymore, this leads them to question the entire thing, many presume the bible itself may have just been a book of different fictional stories, since in modern times, we dont see any evidence ( or at the least to the degree it once was).

You lack hope and faith. I see you were “raised catholic”. I was “raised catholic” myself at one time, but I came back to the church. While in my “raised catholic” times, I wondered much about the second coming and even had some anxiety about the issue.

Now, after having back in the church for some time, I often look forward to the second coming.

My friend, if you are not in communion with the church, I advise you take the necessary steps to do so. You need God to work in you through the Eucharist.

"It is said in the Gospel that God will come like a Thief. He will come to steal me away very gently. Oh how I would love to aid the Thief!”
"I’m not afraid of the Thief. I see Him in the distance, and I take good care not to call out: ‘Help, Thief!’ On the contrary, I call to Him, saying: ‘Over here, over here!’ "
