Lilith - a woman before Eve?

I’ve heard a friend of mine mentioned about Lilith, a woman before Eve, who was a wife of Adam, but because she didn’t want to submit to him so whe was condemned to hell. How reliable was this story? I don’t think the bible mentioned anything about another woman besides Eve.
