Limitations on Participation

To what extent may Catholics participate in protestant services?
 
I would gather that one could observe, while keeping one’s proper liturgical obligation to the church, especially if on a Sunday. It would be unwise to participate in any “communion/altar call” service since that might be construed as fully endorsing the Protestant church.

The situation is similar to that of attending liturgical services at an Orthodox church. While observing and understanding the differences, always keep grounded in your original faith.

To this I would also add funerals / memorial services as appropriate to attend.

I would to make it clear that I am a teenager who is being told by my vocal instructor to do this. I’ve expressed a concern to my mother about this, and I await her decison. In the case things go the wrong way, is it wrong for me to do this?

Couldn’t you sing a solo at Mass?

Why does it have to be at a Protestant service?

How can your vocal instructor tell you to do something like this. What control does he/she have over you. Assuming your mother is Catholic she should make it clear to the vocal instructor that the answer is no.
