I remember reading a link on one of these forums to an article that said a long time ago (can’t remember when) Protestants called their ministers ‘Father’. It wasn’t until it became common in the Catholic Church that they discontinued this term. I’ve searched the forums but can’t seem to find the post that had this link in it. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Yep! Here ya go:

Are ‘Mother’ and ‘Father’ Appropriate Titles for Protestant Clergy?

It was in one of Karl Keatings e-letters and I saved it!

Great thinking Nancy, save those links!!

That’s an interesting article, especially because it even mentioned Presbyterian, Baptist, and even Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ groups using “Father” for a while. I was thinking it was just going to be “High Church” Protestants, like Anglican and Episcopalian.

I thought that was interesting too. No one wants to seem too Catholic. Interesting also was the fact that originally most Catholics DIDN’T call their priests pastor while many Protestants did.

On not being too Catholic I remember reading that many Protestant pastors will preach on every woman in the bible but Mary because they don’t want to appear too Catholic.
