In the spirit of being brothers and sisters in Christ (or not in Christ) I figured I’d start a “fuzzy, feel-good” thread.

You don’t have to believe, or follow the religion to like something about it, even if menial, you can even think that the religion is right out to lunch. Actually, please do NOT put your own religion as that would only be vanity 😉

Let me start with the Jewish religion - I like the idea that it was Jesus’ religion and that they are the first covenant.

Born Again Christians - Their enthusiasm

Ok I could find many more religions that I like the traits of, but I’ll leave it at that and feel free to repeat “religions” and traits.

I like:

Taoist imagery (of moonlight and water especially) used to point a person to truth.

Zen koans.

Cool, then I may comment on ANY religion.

in no particular order except alphabetic:

Asatru - the imagery
Buddhism - the tolerance towards other ways
Catholic - they have a lot of beautiful churches
Jewish - they keep their religion to themselves
Protestant Fundis - they have hilarious cartoons (Jack The Chick, AiG)
Roman/Greek - the epics
Wicca - the connection to nature

I love to listen to the cantors.🙂

I used to live near an Orthodox Jewish synagogue. I always enjoyed seeing families walking to temple together, the men in their black suits and hats w/long beards.

I like the all-day feel of Baptist (and some related Protestant) worship services.

I like some Protestant gospel music–gotta dance!

I like the simplicity of the Amish.

I like the mythology of the Greeks, Romans and Celts.

Also, same religion, but while watching PopeJPII’s funeral Mass, I got chills when I saw the Eastern/Oriental Catholic patriarchs and metropolitans singing the paschal troparion and incensing the coffin.

I like the way that the Anglican church has captured the love of God and Jesus.

I also like Buddhism

I like that most Protestant churches have a very welcoming feel to their church. They care about their members and tend to be very close knit, and passionate about their faith.

Mormons: self-sufficiency and community support. (Wanna know sewing? Spanish? Cooking? Knitting? The Mormons have a class for it.)

Strict Fundamentalists: Their willingness to be purposefully out of the mainstream and standing up for what they believe in.

Buddhist/Taoist/Etc: Common sense approach to the basics that we encounter in living on earth, the ability to just sit still and be. De-emphasis on materialism.

Islam: Modesty. Community. Religion is an over-arching way of life, not something one has at church.

Orthodox: History and beauty kept in the Divine Liturgy

Amish: seclusion from society. Hardworking.

Judaism: support for other Jews. Lack of “activists” and abundance of “workers” in government and media.

Salvation Army: A desire to reach society’s “undesirables.”

Pentacostals: Joy in the Lord. Modesty.

Quaker: Desire for peace and willingness to do their part to bring it about. Recognition of the power of silence.

UU: Acceptance of all. Community spirit.

Baha’i: Unity of all believers. Fight against all prejudices. Emphasis on peace, education, and treating the sexes as equals.

**Hindu: **Rituals, tradition, emphasis on not harming others.

Independant Bible Churches: I love how the Church is a little family which looks after each other, especially the ones with about 50-100 members.

Evangelicals: The need to share Jesus and proclaim I am a Christian!

Jehovah’s Witnesses: The willingness to be faithful to their beliefs regardless of ridicule. I remember the little boy who would just tand there as we did the pledge of allegiance.
(I don’t have to agree with it but how many Christians would do things like curse just to be one of the guys?)

God Bless

I like the way some of the Protestants (I think baptists) like to use the word repent a lot. I think it sounds cool.

I have to admire the fact that the Muslims are required to pray 5 times a day. And also they have the whole month of fasting from sunrise to sunset (i think - someone correct me if I’m wrong? I learned about Ramadan from a Muslim friend of my history teacher that was invited to come speak to the class one day during World History and that’s been about 10 years ago.) How many Catholics (or protestants) do you know who would be willing to fast all day for an entire month?

I don’t really have anything off the top of my head. At the moment I’m very enthralled with the Catholic Church as I have just begun RCIA and am very excited about it but I just think this is such a wonderful post looking for the good in other religions. What a nice and positive thing to do.

I love how so many of the rituals/customs in Jewish religion are a beautiful picture of christ and his sacrifice. ( A jewish wedding is probably the prettiest wedding ceremony I have attended. I love how the family encircles the couple.)

I love the reverence of the Catholic church.

I admire the fervor of muslims.

The prayer life of muslims.
The devoted family life of mormons.
The doggedness of the door knocking jws.

I admire Baptists for their enthusiastic love of the Scriptures. I can always tell I have an ex-Baptist in a Bible study I’m leading because they’re the one’s flipping through their Bibles to look up the cross-references and taking careful notes. 🙂

I admire the consitency of Catholic moral teachings over the centuries.

I like Baptist for their devote need to learn more about the Bible.
I like the RLDS for their devote dedication to others in the church
I like the Protestants for their worship style
I like Judaism for that being the religion of Our Lord.

I like the traditions of the Orthodox Church and their beautiful icons.

The one word Jewish blessing, which a renowned Rabbi would tell another Rabbi’s student: “may the dust of your Rabbi be upon you.” (Any one know what that word is?)

Dedicated prayerlife of the Muslims and their beautiful scarves.

Protestant “non denominational”: for their variety of music to help us praise God.

Buddists: selfless nature and phenomenal martial monks

Catholicism: Marian devotions
