why focus on mortal sins when you can follow the greatest commandments love God with al heart soul and mind and love your neighbor. You do these two things no need for lists.
Yes. I am a bit concerned that the OP listed the minimal religious obligation, the worst possible physical violation of another person, and all the rest are sexual sins! That is a slanted view of the kind of offenses that turn us 180 degrees away from God! Perhaps it was because no one at the time quibbled about what was and was not a sexual sin, but the Lord seemed to save his harshest words for those who permitted themselves the sins that were widely passed over, not those sinners who were doing what was most widely condemned. For instance, if you look at Matthew 5, he reminded them that of course they knew that adultery was forbidden, then pointed out that lusting after a woman in the heart was gravely wrong, and that the widespread practice of divorcing a wife from a valid marriage was also gravely wrong. He also did the same by reminding them that murder was wrong and then adding that verbal abuse was gravely wrong, and so on. In the greater context of the sermon, however, the theme was that all of us belongs to God.
Consider this passage, too:
*An official asked him this question, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus answered him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments, ‘You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother.’” And he replied, “All of these I have observed from my youth.” When Jesus heard this he said to him, “There is still one thing left for you: sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” But when he heard this he became quite sad, for he was very rich.
Jesus looked at him (now sad) and said, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!
