I’m part of a none denominational Christian organization called the navigators and I’ve been getting a lot of questions about catholicism. I can pretty much answer all questions, but just in case, is there like a list of bible verses somewhere that can defend catholic teaching?

Yes.

All of them.

Well first off…What are you doing in a nondenominational group? If you are Catholic be with Catholics! Also, Church teaching…well there is many many many things to go over. There are lots of arguments. If you can’t answer admit that. I find armoredcatholic.com to be a great resource. Always get back to them if you don’t know and have confidence in the Church’s teaching as it is Christ’s Church. Peace

Order Jeff Cavins “Bible Thumpers”. He lists all the areas you will need to defend the faith in an easy format.

Don’t worry I’m part of the Catholic Student association. Mainly why I go to this group is the sole purpose to learn how to interact and talk with other Christians as I’ll probably have to later in life in the workplace as I’ve only ever really had experience with Catholics.

Is it elitist or bad of me that I want to memorize all kinds of Bible verses to defend Catholic teaching to non Catholics in the hopes that they will understand our teaching more and possibly maybe just maybe bring them to the one true Church?

No, not at all. But like I said, everything in the Bible is Catholic teaching.

Why not read the Catechism of the Catholic Church, then you’ll get references there for Bible verses for the teachings. This way you can associate a teaching of the Church with specific verses.

Luke, after reading some of the stuff on that scripture catholic thing, I am now convinced now more then ever that Catholicism is like, THE church.

You sir, are a saint for giving me that. Thank you.
From your lips to God’s ears! 🙂 But John Salza gets the credit for putting together that incredibly helpful website. And of course, God is the One who has made sure that His people can be fully equipped to demolish the arguments of our opponents, even on their own turf, like Sola Scriptura! And yes, this fact is a powerful proof that the Catholic Church is the one true Church of our Lord Jesus Christ. And I’ll give you a bonus reference that illustrates this once again.

Have you ever heard Protestants argue that the New Testament nowhere establishes a new priesthood, but only has “presbyters”? Well, look at this little nugget our Lord has hidden so carefully that even most Catholics (including Salza!) don’t realize is there:

“But I have written very boldly to you on some points so as to remind you again, because of the grace that was given me from God, to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:15-16)

God only has to say it once! And He did. God bless.

Go to www.llifeteen.com and order Catholic Teen Bible. It costs $22.95. It is one of the best editions that I have ever seen. Along with the scriptures, there are two compendiums, one for the OT and one for the NT. These include complete sections with the proper citations to go to.

  1. *]Blessed Mother
*]Every dogma of the Catholic Church
    *]The liturgy
    *]Sacraments
    *]Moral teachings of the Church
    *]The virtues
    *]Prayer
*]How to do Lectio Divina using the monastic method
*]How the bible was written and by whom
    *]How the canon was developed
*]Prayers that every Catholic should know
*]The entire rosary with biblical references for each part
*]An index of questions on everything from the Incarnatio to abortion
    *]Geography and culture
*]Why Catholics use the bible and how
*]A lot of other nifty stuff

It’s incredible the things that are out there for young people that can be very helpful to the more mature person.

It’s a lighweight edition, that you can carry in a backpack, large handbag. It’s good quality paper and nice size print.

I always keep one with me for quick reference to questions that people ask and want to know “where in the bible?”

The priests in my current parish are encouraging all parishioners to purchase *The Catholic Answer Bible. * With luggage weight concerns being an issue when I head home from the Persian Gulf, I checked it out. The table of contents has a list of the various questions non-Catholics have concerning Catholic beliefs. These questions are answered at the back the Bible. Each question is given a full page. At the bottom of the page, there is a list of scriptural verses plus the references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

I have shared on other threads about the small book that became mine upon my youngest brother’s death. Where is that in the Bible?. The author’s name eludes my mind at the moment. I lent it to somebody when I was stateside this summer. One of the recommendations from this little book that I like is using the RSV Bible when in dialogue with non-Catholics. It likewise has a list of scripture passages to support Catholic teaching.

The Catholic Answer Bible is NAB. One of the points highlighted in the front section of the Bible is the development of the Catholic vs Protestant canon regarding which books to include in the Bible.

  1. I’ve seen this as well at the local Catholic bookstore, stateside. As you flip through the Bible you will find sidebars regarding a particular teaching. It is very nice. It is RSV, and therefore a translation accepted and used by many different denominations.
