I thought it might be helpful to list some examples of snacks that are acceptable for fasting this lent season. šŸ˜€ Or perhaps share what you had/will have today?

No snacks at all here. I’m diabetic and my diet calls for 3 meals, no snacks. My husband occasionally has raw nuts or dried fruit for a snack - especially if he has missed a meal.

Fasting during lent (Ash Wednesday/Good Friday) specifically means No Snacks.

If by snack you mean ā€œtwo small meals that together do not add up to the third mealā€

I had a small bowl of oatmeal and a little peanut butter for breakfast, and a peanut butter sandwich on thin bread for lunch. I will probably have a nice omelet for dinner šŸ™‚

Fasting = no snacking. Period.

Perhaps you’re thinking of Abstinence (from meat)?

I had one boiled egg for breakfast. Will probably have another boiled egg for lunch. Dinner will most likely be soup with a slice of bread.

Just remember, Jesus fasted and prayed. God Bless you and have a great Lenten season!

Oops! 😊 Yes, I meant 2 small meals that don’t add up to one full meal. I usually just have a piece of fruit because I don’t want to overdue it. I haven’t eaten anything yet, I will try to hold out as long as possible as I get really hungry at night.

For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken, but not to equal a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.
Oh, for me, popcorn for breakfast.

I had a cup of oatmeal for breakfast, a tuna sandwich for lunch and will have a small plate of cheese ravioli for supper. Also I normally drink diet Dr. Pepper throughout the day along with water but today I’ve drank only water.

Somebody last year suggested to me that Belgian Ale would be a good snack.

In my teen years we attended a Protestant church that was big on water-only fasts. When I was 16 or 17 I went on a 3-day water only fast; wonderful for falling into the sin of pride! 😃

I used to think that the Catholic instructions for fasting were kind of wimpy. Now that I understand the virtue of obedience a bit better, I think it’s fine.

toast with peanut butter
yogurt with granola mixed in
cheese and crackers
bowl of soup with bread

I had a piece of toast with butter spray on it for breakfast…and water.

I had a small yogurt, popcorn, and a apple for lunch

I had two small clementines for mid afternoon (diabetic sugar control)

Dinner was a piece of baked cod, some whit hominy, and a small potato.

And water.

I think I did OK on the fasting. I have to keep my eye on my blood glucose…if I don’t eat enough it drops like a rock because of the insulin I use.

I believe I am exempt because of the diabetes…but I like to try anyway.

No snacks during Tv tonight…YIKES.

Hi there. I like to have a Zone bar or nutrition shake for one snack and usually a small cheese sandwich for the other snack. My one meal was fish sticks, Brussels sprouts, olives and plain bread. My beverages today were water, almond milk, juice with a little vinegar, regular juice, and a little coffee.

Today I had one of the best fasts I’ve ever experienced. I attribute it to the Grace of God and the intercession of the Saints.

God bless you. šŸ˜‰

Please note: My choices might not seem strict, but they work well for me as I have a high metabolism and a pretty physical job.

You are doing REALLY well especially because you have to work out your fasting with your diabetic condition! Some with diabetes will claim a medical exemption to fasting; can’t blame them. God Bless you for your faithfulness.šŸ‘

Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

It’s the breakfast of champions after all.

Now you’ve unmasked the secret of how Belgian monks survive those long weeks of Lent in cold, damp Belgium… šŸ˜›

Thanks for the replies! šŸ‘:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I had a salad for one of my small meals, a small bag of gold fish for my other one…and a egg sandwich and gold fish for my main meal. Happy lent everyone!😃

veiller et prier
I’m working on the ā€œveillerā€ part this Lent. I’m getting up a half-hour earlier (5:30 am instead of 6) to pray Vigils (Office of Readings), and using the extra half-hour to do lectio, something I’ve neglected for too long. I’m hoping that by the end of 6 weeks it will have become an in-grained habit šŸ˜›

Of course I’m a long way from the local Trappists who start at 4 am, or even my beloved Benedictines who start at 5… and let’s not talk abut the Carthusians

Swerving back on topic…

*O taste and see that the LORD is good!
Happy is the man who takes refuge in him!

(Psalm 34:8)

How sweet are thy words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!

(Psalm 119:103)*

The word of God is a great snack. Remember to floss. šŸ™‚
