peanut oil is a healthy fat, just gotta watch the quantity. here is a link to a Harvard university article. health.harvard.edu/healthy-eating/ask-the-doctor-why-is-peanut-butter-healthy-if-it-has-saturated-fatEver try the powdered stuff?
Its about half the fat and almost edible if you forget that you ever ate the real stuff.
I accidentally wrote āsnacksā in my original post, oops! Please remember fasting and abstaining are two different things, and fasting is only required on two days a year - Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Any other fasting is purely voluntary.
Why are you looking for a list of snacks. Fasting is very simple on the required two days a year. I read all the threads on this topic and people are talking about weighing food and counting calories.
Some people are trying to make this so complicated. How hard is it just to cut down the quantity of food on these two days compared to what is normally eaten.
This is what I do, but because Iām at a high altitude, I let the eggs stand for 25 minutes. I never seem to have ice around, so I drain the hot water, cool the eggs somewhat with cold tap water, then cover with same - let stand for 5 minutes. Perfect hard cooked eggs every time!Perfect hard cooked eggs: Place eggs in saucepan and cover with water 1 inch above eggs. Rapidly bring to a boil, removing from heat and covering tightly as soon as it comes to a boil. Let stand exactly 17 minutes. Cool rapidly by draining hot water, adding ice, etc. Enjoy.

One of my favourite Good Friday fast āsmall mealā is a baked potato sprinkled with a little steak spice and some sour cream, accompanied by my hemina of wineHow about brushing a red bell pepper with some olive oil and putting it under the broiler for a few minutes? Thatās a tasty snack any day in my book.

Was Russian food just straight Vodka? When we were poor in college we used to buy a sack of potatoes and use all the condiments from fast food stores.
Mustard from the convenience store was German food
Soy Sauce was Chinese food
Hot sauce from Taco Bell was Mexican food.
Maple syrup from IHOP was breakfast.
And so forth.
I never liked the French baked potato. Mayonnaise is abhorrent to me.

There is also āFrom a Monastery Kitchenā by the same author.I have a book, āTwelve Months of Monastery Soupsā by Brother Victor-Antoine dāAvila -LaTourrette.
But garlic is GOOD! I put it in lots of foods.I have avoided the Garlic soup.![]()
Here is one I useā¦I have a book, āTwelve Months of Monastery Soupsā by Brother Victor-Antoine dāAvila -LaTourrette. Probably available on Amazon or some such. It is a collection of vegan and vegetarian soups. Most could be adapted to use meat or at least meat broth. I use vegetable broth. These are very good to use for one or two meals a day, depending upon whether it is a fast day. Just finished āSt. Scholastica Soupā yesterday. Recipe said four servings, but husband and I each had 4 meals from it. We have tried others in the book and like them. I have avoided the Garlic soup.![]()
Well we call it vitamin G in our house. It is just the soup seems a little heavy on the garlic! Love having the recipe though1There is also āFrom a Monastery Kitchenā by the same author.

Iāve noticed very often that garlic thatās cooked in a recipe is often tamed, so much more can be used than one would think possible.Well we call it vitamin G in our house. It is just the soup seems a little heavy on the garlic! Love having the recipe though1
Donāt feel like a failure, just unite your suffering (even if itās small) to Christās own passion.Iām struggling today with the fast. Iām not diabetic, but I have to eat little and often or I get shaky (my sister is the same, I wonder if itās familial).
Iām trying to break up my two small amounts of food into even smaller amounts so I can eke it out. I have a stomach upset today, which isnāt helping and I donāt think Iāll be able to attend church this afternoon (because if I go, I may have to run out).
Feel a bit of a failure, really as Iād planned to attend the whole Triduum and fully observe the fast.![]()
Thank you Gertie, I appreciate your kind words. I ended up emailing our priest as I felt drained this afternoon. I apologised for my failures, he said some inspiring and encouraging words, as ever. Heās a very wise man.Donāt feel like a failure, just unite your suffering (even if itās small) to Christās own passion.
If your upset stomach related is not likely to be contagious, attend the passion service and sit at the end of a pew near the restrooms. If you are contagious, stay home and read the passion in your bible.
As for food to help with the shakes (I get the same way when Iām teaching, which Iām not today), eat a banana or a spoonful of peanut butter. You can also drink a glass of milk or a cup of broth (made with bouillon) without breaking your fast.
God bless you!
Gertie
