I’ve always wondered something…

in the song “Bicycle” they emphasize the first syllable…

BIcycle
BI cycle

Then they say "…I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike, I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride it where I like"

Now, don’t laugh, but knowing Freddie was gay, is this song a reference to bi-sexuality? I mean, wasn’t he at one time married and had children from that marriage?

Just curious…🙂

I love Queen, too! I have never once considered it a mortal sin to listen to it. Compared to the filthy music lyrics that are out there today, 70’s and 80’s music seems so tame. I say, keep enjoying Queen!

Considering what pop music is today (trash) Queen was light years ahead of their time.

I first heard of Queen as a freshman in high school (1975). A friend in one of my classes asked me to listen to the song he was listening to, it was Queen from The Night at the Opera album, then I was hooked. Day At the Races came out next and I got that one. THen News of the World, and Jazz.

Even though I listen to country now, Queen will always have that unique place for music appreciation…besides, it takes me back to my high school days.

My Favorites:
  1. Bohemian Rhapsody
  2. Under Pressure
  3. Radio Ga-Ga
  4. '39 (from The Night At the Opera album)
  5. You’re My Best Friend6
  6. Killer Queen
  7. Bicycle Race
  8. Somebody To Love
  9. We Are the Champions/We Will Rock You
  10. Another One Bites the Dust
(There’s a song from Day At the Races that is sung in Japanese and I always thought that was cool. I don’t remember what the name of that song was.)

It’s ironic that Queen WAS a 70’s and 80’s group, yet it’s not until time passes by that they were truly gifted musicians. At that time, they were big but not as big as they could have been.
Music history still has to detemine HOW big they are after the fact.

“Teo Torriate”?

Seriously, if you’ve never heard the “Innuendo” album from 1991, get your hands on a copy. It blew me away when I first heard it. Awesome. 👍

On the whole,
I really enjoy the music of QUEEN.

I fell in love with Bohemian Rhapsody as a teenager in the 1970s.
That’s when I got into Queen.

Some of their lesser known songs are even better than
their more-famous ones.

For example, on their album A NIGHT AT THE OPERA,
there is a song that Brian May sings
called '39. It is so, so, so beautiful.

**In the year of '39 assembled here the volunteers
in the days when lands were few.
Here the ships sailed out into the blue and sunny morn,
the sweetest sight ever seen.

And the night followed day, and the story-tellers say,
that the score brave souls inside,
oh for many a lonely day
sailed across the milky seas,
Never looked back,
never feared,
never cried,
Don’t you hear my call, though you’re many years away?
Don’t you hear me calling you?
Write your letters in the sand for the day I take your hand
in the land that our grandchildren knew."**

and the melody is even more beautiful than the lyrics.
Absolutely enchanting and beautiful.

yah. hey on one of the songs, it went like this, “you say white, i say black” “you say lord i say christ”

am i just seeing what i want to see? its just that well, freddy mercury was supposedly gay…and he was a rockstar… i dunno i just cant stop thinking about where he went when he died:shrug:

We don’t know where he “went” when he died. He may very well be with our Lord anyhow.

Well, although some of the stuff that Freddie Mercury did was not necessarily the best for his soul, he was still an amazing singer.

I love the song “Tie Your Mother Down”. Great stuff.

First off: Freddy Mercury was the best vocalist to ever walk the planet.
No way, dude- that honor belongs to Brad Delp (another senseless and tragic loss to music and the world in general) alone. 👍

Queen did rock out pretty hard, though. I’ve worn out three of their albums already, and actually have to replace some of them via itunes now!

Soooo true. Boston is now pretty much left in the dust without him. They will never restore their former glory. Delp was AMAZING, and he really shouldn’t have commited suicide.

hi guys. i just bought the Queen platinum collection. im not going to stop listening to it, i wanna make that clear. what little i know about it, is that its not a mortal sin, but also not recommended. i mean…just listen to some of their songs. (besides: we will rock you and such. they are good songs, but i think that if someone judged Queen on that song, they would be misrepresented.) did you know that they made the song that goes: “oooh…you make me live”. thats a good song. so, without bias, i want to know what you, and only you, think about Queen.

thanks.
omg!!!queen is like the best band in the world my favorite song is Killer Queen, then my 2nd favorite would have 2 be Under pressure!!!but really they r all awsome!!!🙂 🙂 🙂

The members of Queen are musical genius’, and I pray that God have mercy on Freddie’s soul.

That being said…

Does anyone else think that Vanilla Ice committed a MORTAL SIN when he ripped off “Under Pressure” :tsktsk: (in "Ice Ice Baby 😛 ) and then tried to LIE about ripping it off? :doh2:

In Christ,

Ellen

Much love and respect to Brad Delp and Boston. They are an amazing band but I still have to give the slight edge to Freddy only because he could sing in any genre of music not just rock. But much love to Boston. I loved Third Stage.

Very muchly. :whacky:

Yes, the Third Stage stage was awesome, my favorite on that one is “We’re Ready”. But no one gives it much attention.

Hello everybody! I know this might be a stupid question, but Iis music by the band Queen sinful? I really enjoy their music, and wanted to know if it was sinful or not… only certain songs? I know some are fairly… edgy to say the least (e.g. Fat Bottomed Girls). So is it okay to listen to their music? Also, is it sinful to write and sing music that does not directly praise God, but does not encourage sin? Just curious about the second.

That song you mentioned is about impurity, against the 6th Commandment. A serious mortal sin.

Bohemian Rhapsody has lyrics that are seriously questionable: one part of the song is ‘Mother Mary let me go.’
Another is: that the demon Beelzebub (a catholic demon mentioned in the bible as one of satan’s most higher ranking demons) is mentioned in the lyrics as holding a place in hell for the murderer mentioned in the song.

Lyrics are important. Can you listen to any lyric at all, no boundaries, anything goes,?
The Catechism states that catholics should not listen to forms of entertainment that deliberately glorify mortal sin.

The bible doesn’t glorify sin. It warns us against it’s consequences.

You are correct to decide, are lyrics of a specific somg questionable.

If lyrics are okay, then a song is usually fine.☺️

Freddie Mercury has some amazing voice/ songwriting skills,
I hope he isn’t burning in Hell but hopefully repented at the last moment…

Ever youtube and listen to Marc martel on itunes?
He sings EXACTLY like Freddie Mercury, can sing all the Queen songs EXACTLY like the studio recordings, and was part of a christian worship band called Downhere, (who also have christian worship songs on youtube/ itunes)
