I’m going to open this topic back up again as the Easter vigil is only days away.
The contemporary Becker version is beautiful and full of grace. I am a little bemused by the neo arch conservatives on here who deride anything contemporary. The Gregorian litany is beautiful too and parishes should select what they want instead of being derided for their choices and include many different genre in their music. Specific guidelines are stated on the composition of the litany and these should be followed. The litany can be sung at r funerals and other rites and should be used because it is an ancient and beautiful form of petition.

So why are you opening the topic specifically?

I didn’t see a question or anything other than perhaps taking a swipe at people who don’t care for contemporary Church music.

I am truly confused as to the purpose of your post. 🤷‍♂️

Since this is their first time posting I would assume this is a previously suspended user who had opened a new account. I’m sure whatever point they are trying to make is what got them banned the first time.

I have no idea what this thread is about. I rarely hear the Litany of the Saints performed musically whether it’s Gregorian or contemporary. Usually the Litany of the Saints in my world involves me saying it verbally as a private devotion.

I think it’s because it’s part of the Easter Vigil —but I’m not actually sure what the thread is about.

In fact, I wanted to fix the typo in the thread title, but I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be “renewal” or “recital” or something else.

I’m not a fan of the Becker version, I definitely prefer the haunting, other-worldly sound of the chant version - and no, I’m not a neo-arch-conservative; I just like what I like is all!

As far as the composition goes, there is actually supposed to be an order for the groupings of saints - not that any ove ever seems to follow it 🤷‍♂️
