Do you think all the problems going on in Islamic countries are because the Quran is taught as “literal meaning”? (does that make sense?) But if that is the truth why are some Islamic countries more safer than others? Do you think it is because they are educating their people?

If we believed the bible as "literal meaning " would we be the same way as those countries (ie. Iraq)?

Does this make sense?

I put the differences more down to the differences between “Mohammed” and Jesus. Mohammed as a matter of historical fact committed acts which Jesus did not.

Are you talking about the wars ?
Why would you think that?
I mean all sorts of things that are recorded in sources that Muslims accept.
Violence and conflict is part of that - some of it would be more described as caravan raiding than war tho.

you raise a good point. The dissease of literalism has made many muslims very rigid and inflexible

thats a very naive statement. If it wasn’t for the renessance and the seperation of church and state, we would still be living in the dark ages.

In some Islamic countries, the population generally behave reasonably well because they were first educated by their christian colonialists viz: by the Dutch in Indonesia and by the British in Malaysia or in Brunei. They have, kind of, incorporated good christian values in their islamic outlook. In Malaysia for instance, they inculcate good islamic values (which are in fact Christian values e.g be a caring society {love thy neighbour}) in the civil service. So you find friendly christian-like Moslems in the street. I don’t believe you can expect such behaviorial outlook from those educated in the middle east or Paskitan. I believe too that most moslems of non-arabic origins would not have any notion of the literal meaning of the Qur’an because most of their exigesis would have been usurped from the apologists rather than from their intimate reading of the arabic qur’an.

hola

i think something similar to your idea… for a very long time i have been trying to understand authority in islam, i have learned that there is none. like protestants islam is “me, my scriptures and my teacher” which means there is no universal orthodox belief and everyone is their own Pope. the wisdom of God in creating his Holy Church was that there will always be one authority controlled by God, and anything that contradicts that authority faces excommunication and damnation until they repent.

in islam everybody can be right… if they wish to read literally, interpretively or literally in some areas and interpretively in some areas they may do so… that is why it is difficult for muslims to give a consistent answer about important things like how they are to conduct themselves and what they are to believe.

Dominus Vobiscum

I don’t think it is an issue of education. An idiot can’t pilot a jet plane into the pentagon. Don’t make the mistake in believing murder committed in the name of Islam is only being done by the ignorant.

Most people that study islam only study crazy hadiths or sayings from books such as bukhari or sahih muslim. but many of these books are incorrect. If you really want to use islam against someone, use a reliable source such as the quran.

Someone earlier claimed that Muhammad raided caravans and committed other violent acts… can you bring some proof?
