Literal Saints Lives Books

I’ve got a book written by Saint Theresa of Liseaux. While it’s good, I’ve only managed to get to an early chapter (mind you I’m not a big reader) after having the book for almost a year. I’ve abandoned reading the book because I don’t like reading and because I find the book is kind of confusing/metaphorical.

Are there any saint books for those who dislike reading and are written to be read literally? Thanks! 😃
 
Reading the works of the Church’s spiritual giants is difficult. The saints are different than us regular sheep who wander about without direction, feeding on crumbs we find scattered. That said, if you can, you should try and persevere. I started St. Faustina’s Diary until I hit a wall. It tore at my heart and soul, I could just so feel the agony in hers.

I do not think there exists a ‘lite’ spiritual reading written by a saint. They are all going to be challenges. I have found listening to audio books helpful. When I come to a difficult passage, I can just play it over and over again.
 
Maybe you would like an anthology, like Our Sunday Visitor’s Encyclopedia of Saints, by Matthew Bunson, et. al. Works like these have relatively short entries for many saints, and stick to the basic facts about each saint’s life. You can read as much or as little as you like at a time. I used this book to look up and read about a different saint on their feast day every day for an entire year a few years ago.

I am not quite sure what you mean by being read literally, but I HIGHLY recommend any of Louis de Wohl’s books!

Four Teresa’s is a saint book.
 
If what you want is just a fairly brief synopsis of the life and works of a saint, try anything by the Catholic Truth Society, they publish a number of short booklets like this.
 
Let me guess, you’re trying to read “Story of a Soul” right? I could not get through that one, but there is a good down to earth biography: “Everything is Grace, the Life and Way of St. Therese of Lisieux” by Joseph F. Schmidt.

I’d also recommend “Bernadette Speaks” by Rene Laurentin. I am currently making my way VERY slowly through “Faustina’s Diary” and finding that I can only read a page or so at a time.
 
Perhaps if you go to the library and ask about books on Saints that contain a historical component as well, will hold your interest.
 
Thanks for the replies! I guess I’m looking for inspiring books on Saint’s lives and struggles to help me grow in faith by examples. 🙂
