Little Nellie of Holy God

I recently read about the life of Nellie Organ, usually known as “Little Nellie of Holy God” due to the way she referred to God. Truly remarkable child, she died before her 5th birthday yet reached the heights of sanctity. I read a short account of her life here:

I feel strongly drawn to this saint (well she has not been canonized but I can see no doubt of her sanctity). Does anyone know where a holy card can be obtained?

I just read about Little Nellie of Holy God and will be ordering her book from Amazon. I’ve never heard of her. Her story can be found under “mystics of the church”. Our Almighty God works in strange and beautiful ways! 🙂

As St. Francis of Assisi said, "Preach the Gospel always and when necessary, use words."
 
I am a 40 year old man and I am not ashamed that tears flowed freely as I read her story a few weeks ago. I only wish I had her relationship with our Lord. I don’t yet but, praying I do!

I’m a 46 year old man - and I cried too when I read it. Her example is like a challenge to us, that we should strive to reach that same level of holiness and love for God. We may not reach those same heights; but God help us, at least let us not fail through lack of effort.

You should not refer to her as a saint as many will assume she has been canonised which she has not, no matter how saintly you and others feel she was when she was alive.

I pointed out in that same post (which you quoted) that she has not been canonized.

Agreed. And I also agree with Thistle. I’m not sure what good canonisation would do as she is already in heaven, being baptised and under the Age of Reason. Another hurdle would be proving that her devotion was real, as small children of that age are often heavily influenced by their role models. If she is found to be authentic, I will accept it, but right now, I am on the fence.

This is a prayer card from the 1950s of Little Nellie of Holy God, the Violet of the Eucharist from the 1950s. You can click on each side to copy it.
