Does anyone know any information (quality, etc) of the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary published by Angelus Press? I am reluctant to buy the one from Baronius because of its many typos that I’ve heard about. Thank you.

I don’t know about the Angelus Press one, but you are wise to avoid the Baronius Press Little Office.

I ordered it, and eventually gave it away. Not only did it have typos, the printing on many of the pages was crooked (a bit at an angle, as if the paper was put in crookedly).

Baronius Press was absolutely non-responsive to my attempts to return the Little Office. I followed all of their contact procedures - several times.

I also ordered their Douay-Rheims Bible (same order with the Little Office), and had problems with the poor quality of its binding and endpapers. Again, no resolving the issue as BP never responded to any of my numerous e-mails.

I’ve ordered the 1962 missal and several other items from Angelus Press (though not the Little Office). Their quality has always been excellent, and their customer service has always been helpful and responsive. I would definitely choose them over Baronius.

I would like to be filled in on just what this book is about.

Is it worth buying?

I have that one, and love it.

I wonder if the US and UK operations of Baronius Press are separate, because here in the UK I’ve never had any problems with them or their books. Are you all in the US?
The one you have looks great. Is it high quality (I will be carrying it with me all day), and is it accurate (typos?). Thanks a bunch.

I’ve used Baronius for both Bible and Little Office and have run into problems. Just throwing it out there.

Their missal is good though. I have decided to buy the Little Office published by Saint Bonaventure Publications. I’ve heard that there was a revision to the 1914 edition and that it is missing some psalms, and Saint Bonaventure sells the pre-revision edition. I hope I made a good choice.

Whoops! HUGE typo! I meant I have never run into problems!!! I am a completely satisfied customer of Baronius

I have the Boneventure version. I really don’t recall any typos. The print however is somewhat small and following the office can be a little daunting. Also, I found the introduction impeneterable.

But the prayers and psalms are wonderful.

I have the Catholic Book Publishing Co. 1988 edition of the Little Office of the BVM and it’s doesn’t have any problems. If I end up getting the 1962 missal tho’ I understood that the Baronius is the best one around.?

Thank you for your response. If you don’t mind, could you please elaborate on the changes. Thank you. I can’t wait to start praying it though. And from what I’ve heard, the one from Saint Bonaventure is good. So, hopefully it is better than the Baronius edition.

Whoops, sorry, I accidentally deleted the previous post. The changes are to Lauds in the Laudate psalms. Only psalm 148 is said

what is the "little office"

The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary (to give its full name) is an expansion of the Common Office for Feasts of the Blessed Virgin, arranged for use daily throughout the year.

Many active orders of sisters, as well as devout laity, used it rather than the full Divine Office, which can be overwhelming, especially in private.

It’s called the “Little Office” to distinguish it from the full Divine Office.

The simplification of the old Roman Breviary into the modern Liturgy of the Hours (in the Roman Rite, that is) has led to the LOH being used (in whole or in part) by orders that used to confine themselves to the Little Office.
