Can anyone tell me anything about the “Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary”? I have the following edition on order:
catholicbkpub.com/ONLINE_CAT/DETAIL/b_detail.asp?IM_ISBN=0899424503&MC_ID=CN

Is there any large difference between the version shown here?
sistersofcarmel.com/booksol.php

I want to eventually enroll into the Brown Scapular and would like to know exactly what is expected before I enroll. How does the priest give you permission to substitute saying the Rosary/doing a good deed for the Little Office? After enrolled does he simply say something like “I give you permission to substitute saying the Rosary or performing a good deed for the reading of the Little Office”? Is saying the Little Office only required for the Sabbatine Privilege? I would like to say the Rosary daily but I would also like the option of reading the Little Office or if I’m sick, extremely busy, etc. during the day to simply do a good deed.

As a Lay Carmelite of the Ancient Observance, maybe I could help you. 🙂

As an ordinary layman you should probably buy the Little Office from Catholic Publishing rather than from the Carmelite Sisters only because the one from the CS probably includes the saints of Carmel and other such prayers and devotions, unless you want them, of course. And the one from Catholic Publishing is about $10 cheaper. 😉

When you are enrolled in the scapular you make promises to live out your baptismal vows with the aid of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and you will share the benefits of the Masses said for all Carmelites.

As to the Sabbatine Privilege, which is a private devotion, just follow what you are to do here.

Thanks. That is the one I ordered and it actually just shipped today.

Anything else I should know before enrolling in the Brown Scapular?
