Little Portions of the
Divine Office for Today

“As the Prophet saith: ‘Seven times a day I have given praise to Thee’ (Psalm 118[119]:164), this sacred sevenfold number will be fulfilled by us in this wise if we perform the duties of our service at the time of Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline …”

The Holy Rule of Saint Benedict - Chapter 19
On the Manner of Reciting the Psalter [Divine Office]
February 24 (25) - June 26 - October 26
🙂
****We believe that
**God **
is present everywhere
and that the
**Eyes of the Lord **
behold the good and the bad
in every place (cf Prov 15:3).
Let us firmly believe this, especially when we take part in the Work of God. Let us, therefore, always be mindful of what the Prophet saith, “Serve ye the Lord with fear” (Ps 2:11). And again, **“Sing :harp: ye wisely” **(Ps 46[47]:8). And, “I will sing praise to Thee in the sight of the an:angel1:gels” (Ps 137[138]:1). Therefore, let us consider how it becometh us to behave in the sight of God and His an:angel1:gels, and let us so stand to :harp: sing, that our mind may be in harmony with our voice.
Ora et Labora (Pray and Work)

Today’s reflection is one of my absolute favorite 🙂 sections of **The Holy Rule of St. Benedict **. . . and as I was reflecting this past year on this beautiful section of the Rule . . . the Holy Spirit brought into memory the sharing I have heard many times . . . about the painted sign of an . . . “EYE” . . . that you may see on the outside of pubs . . . or posted somewhere inside of pubs . . . all over Europe and the Isles . . . which is a symbol for the loving . . . **“Eye of God” **. . . which is upon us at all times . . . and which emphasizes the marvelous . . . comforting . . . and sometimes . . . rather terrifying . . . *for some *. . . real truth . . . that the . . .

+ . . . Divine Presence of our Wonderful God . . . +**
  • . . . in His Holy Omniscience. . . +**
. . . is with us at . . . all . . . times . . . signifying the very truth emphasized in the above referenced section of the Holy Rule . . . It is my understanding that the motivation for having such a symbol in regard to pubs was to discourage any type of swearing or foul language in the establishment . . . ***What a . . . GREAT . . . 🙂 . . . idea! ***
The evangelization of Europe and the Isles is credited almost entirely to **. . . God’s Wonderful Holy Gift of Grace . . . ** working through the Benedictines . . . humbly following . . . **St. Benedict’s **holy pathway . . . as written in **The Holy Rule of St. Benedict **. . . I cannot help but think that this wonderful symbol was as a result of our **. . . Heavenly Father’s . . . **gracious gift of the **. . . holy Benedictines. . . ** He had so graciously sent among them . . . for their redemption . . . and their salvation . . .

was always intended . . . **by the blessed St. Benedict **. . . **God’s blessed holy shepherd of souls **. . . to be reflected upon each day with in-depth knowledge and awareness of the . . . PSALM 3

*Domine, quid multiplicati.
The prophet’s danger and delivery from his son Absalom:
mystically, the passion and resurrection of Christ. *

***1 The psalm of David
when he fled from the face of his son Absalom. ***
:gopray2:
2 Why,
O Lord,
are they multiplied that afflict me?
many are they who rise up against me.
3 Many say to my soul:
There is no salvation for him
in his God.

4 But thou,
**O Lord **
art my protector, my glory,
and the lifter up of my head.

5 I have cried to the
Lord
with my voice:
and he hath heard me from his holy hill.
6 I have slept  and taken my rest:
and I have risen up,
because the
Lord
hath protected me.
:clapping:
7 I will not fear thousands of the people,
surrounding me:

:gopray2:
arise,
** O Lord;**
save me,
O my God.

8 For thou hast struck all them
who are my adversaries without cause:
**thou **hast broken the teeth of sinners.

9 Salvation is of the
Lord:

and **thy blessing
is upon thy people.

Psalm 94

*Venite exultemus.
An invitation to adore and serve God,
and to hear his voice.
Praise of a canticle for David himself. *
:harp:
1 Come let us praise the
**Lord **
with joy:
let us joyfully sing to
God our Saviour.
2 Let us come before his presence
with thanksgiving;
and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.

3 For
the Lord

is a
great God,
:harp:
and a
**great King **
:harp:
above all gods.

4 For in his hand are all the ends of the earth:
and the
heights of the mountains
are his.
5 For the
sea
is his,
and he made it:
and his hands formed the
dry land.

6 Come let us adore and fall down:
:bowdown2:
and weep before the Lord that made us.

**7 For he is the
**Lord our God: ****
and we are the people of his
pasture
and the sheep of his hand.

8 Today if you shall hear his voice,
harden not your hearts :
❤️
9 As in the provocation,
according to the day of temptation in the wilderness:
where your fathers tempted me,
they proved me, and saw my works.
10 Forty years long was** I **offended with that generation,
and **I **said:
These always err in heart.
❤️
11 And these men have not known my ways:
so **I swore in my wrath
that they shall not enter into
my **rest.
