In my group, people sort of broke down on the questions, and reverted to saying, OK, what does the answer book say?
Ideally, the participants should not even be aware that the answer book exists - otherwise, it does turn into a crutch.

Our groups often came up with different answers than were in the answer book, and I often felt that our answers were actually better, anyway, in those cases.

I am also currently involved in a LRSS on the Gospel of Luke. I agree that LRSS misses the mark in several places. For instance, when we covered the first chapter of Luke, the commentary in the book and the video kept going on and on about how Mary must have felt at the Annunciation. They kept going on like she was some poor confused little girl who just didn’t know what the heck was going on. I’m sorry, but speculating about how people in the Bible felt and dumbing-down the Blessed Mother are both very protestant practices and borderline on private interpretation.

I’ll stick with this one until it’s over but probably will only do CSS from now on.
This closely mirrors my own experience. I moved (Joyfully) from LRSS to CSS.

That being said, some of the LRSS modules are better than others. I did the one on the Book of Revelation and it was very well done. The one on Jeremiah was dry as toast and the Collegeville commentary that came with it was written before the CCC so had limited usefulness.

We are starting one of the Bible Studies by Emaus Road in January. We needed something shorter than CSS for a mid-year start. I’ll let you all know how it goes. 😃
