Trivial things are irritatiIng me at the moment, eg neighbours barking dogs, another neighbours wind chime is a loud wind chime that never stops all day long. Now although there are worse things in life, it actually disturbs the peace at home. Cant enjoy peace and quiet in the garden etc. Now I know that may sound selfish & trvial but its still irritating.

Now, do I have a right to be irritated or is this all part of Gods plan? Like a test?. Is this where I have to be humble?. Do I have to accept this as part of Gods plan? Like my version of suffering if you like for God?.

Why elevate it to a spiritual level! That is to give it undue and inappropriate importance . Ask your neighbours to desist, report the dog or/and get some ear plugs. I think the saying is don’t sweat the small stuff … Or move house…🤷

This is your egotism and lack of patience coming through. The barking dog and the being irritated by wind chimes (really?) may or may not be of god or as you say a test but whether they are or not doesn’t matter. Learn to let go, be more content and you’ll be a much happier person. May you be filled with loving kindness. May you be well. May you be peaceful and at ease. May you be happy.

Havin spoken as I did … I spent many months getting help here for dogs that were chained up in a field in all weathers and howled and barked all the day and night. Rural area… Th efollowing year the same man decided to use a crowbanger ( automatic bird scarer )24/7. That was serious noise … ear plugs are great friends… Mine cost 80 cents a pair

Noise can be appallingly intrusive so take steps…👍

I think this could probably be used as an opportunity to grow in patience… If you have a house, a garden, that is a blessing. Maybe thinking of such things could help? Maybe converting it to prayer? 🙂

Interesting responses. So far no one has mentioned the inconsiderate nature of neighbors who allow their dog to bark endlessly. It never ceases to amaze me that those who own dogs, seem to believe it is ok to allow said dogs to bark nonstop and infringe on the peace of their neighbors.Personally I think you are well within your rights to be irritated by this.

I did. But the point is that we need to take evasive action, Here the first year I involved every animal welfare agency I could find and got the dogs moved and I would really rather not say what we did re the crowbanger! It was like being shot at every few minutes all day and night…

But letting these things get to you does not help the situation. Ear plugs OP!! Ear plugs!

NB you can get animal control to help over there?

Trotter - sounds bother me too. I can’t offer any help, but I can commiserate. We were able to move to the boonies, but even here human sounds penetrate & can be very annoying. I vent, then do the best I can to not notice the sounds. Difficult when it’s a neighbor doing target practice! 😉

I understand this. I have the same problem. It is not a personality problem, it is a medical problem. It could be due to low magnesium, sleep deprivation, sleep apnea or depression.
It is a biological/chemical problem.

I can’t tolerate most sounds including babies crying and children with high pitched voices. A lot of music unnerves me, also.

I have been trying to solve this problem for years. Everything sounds much louder to me than to others, including people’s voices.

I got permission to wear ear plugs at work because I couldn’t tolerate a radio playing. The ear plugs helped a little.

I struggle at Mass but I try to hang in there.

There are books on the sound sensitivity syndrome or “misophonia”.

Praying for you.

I agree. The noise pollution is an intrusion to one’s silence, particularly if it is continuous. The occasional burst of noise is understandable. Pray first, then have a polite conversation with your neighbor?

Jeanne S,
I agree 100% with your post. the neighbors are inconsiderate and the op has a right to be irritated. I also believe that I’m the one that needs to change not others. In other words let go. This is the only way I’ll ever progress on the path.
There are several dogs in our neighborhood that bark incessantly and I mean incessantly. One is right next door and my wife has mentioned several times to the owners that it is “irritating” and nothing has ever been done. People of this ilk are inconsiderate no doubt as well as unconscious. The only way to find peace is within ourselves not by relying on others to do the right thing (in my view). This is why I believe in letting go and practicing patience to the best of my ability.

Your only human things will annoy us all from time to time but prayer and perseverance is the key…one I lack and need to badly work on myself.

I completely agree with you and would speak to the neighbors about the issue and report the dogs if necessary.

The wind chimes thing is quite hilarious. That cannot be controlled but the dogs barking that can be annoying if you are trying to sleep.

I have to learn that as well. People will not always do the right thing and that is their freewill.

Thanks for this. I have this as part of a serious systemic illness; all sensory perceptions re wildly exaggerated …People generally do not understand and it is different from being irritated.

Often it is as if someone turned the volume up to maximum…

Good ear plugs are worth their weight in gold, they really are.

If a dog is being left alone all day it WILL bark. And often the owners do not realise this. I am sure from working on pet forums that there are laws over there? Worth calling is it city hall there?

I’d be annoyed at the dogs too.
Could you perhaps create a little peaceful place inside the house instead of outside?
