**Phemie, Evan, Porthos, TFM, ProVobis, **and others. Thank you for your lengthy explanations but I am still in the dark about at least one point. No, that would make your Triduum shorter than three days.
The Triduum is 3 days: evening of Holy Thursday to evening of Good Friday; evening of Good Friday to evening of Holy Saturday; evening of Holy Saturday to evening of Easter Sunday.
First, it is quite clear (this I already knew) that Lent does not include the Paschal Triduum. Lent ends at (approximately) sunset on Holy Thursday, meaning that the duration of Lent is 43 whole days plus about 18 hours. This year it began on Feb. 18, Ash Wednesday, with Apr. 1 as the last whole day of Lent.
The Triduum begins at the moment Lent finishes. But when does the Triduum end? It had been my understanding that the whole of Sunday is included in the Triduum, which would consequently have a duration of three whole days (Friday to Sunday) plus the additional six hours or so of Thursday evening.
If that is the case, it would mean that the Triduum lies partly inside and partly outside the Easter season. The two periods of time overlap. I can’t see any objection to that, in principle. There cannot possibly be any doubt, can there, as to the correct liturgy for any given day, or any given time of day, all the way from the beginning of Lent to the end of Easter season.
