Liturgical Dancers

This is my first posting, hope I do it right. Our parish does have liturgical dancers. They are girls from the parish elementary school.

I have to say I was stunned and embarrassed the first time (and every subsequent time) that I have seen them. I am sure that the Lord finds dance as beaitiful as singing, but in this culture, seeing 12 year old girls in leotards and dancing badly does not lift one’s thoughts very near to heaven. I keep hoping that the pastor doesn’t really want this, but feels compeled to allow it because someone feels it is as legitimate as singing.

I can’t believe the pictures posted on this thread!

We don’t have this at our parish and I am so grateful that
we don’t, this would make me very uncomfortable!

👍 Welcome … you MAY be in a LIBERAL parish. Do they pray for women priests and that priests can marry

Nuns dancing around an alter like Vestal Virgins…???

It’s garbage like this that just gives the Fundies ammunition; that the Catholic Church isn’t really Christian, that our liturgy came from the pratices of pagan idolotry, etc. etc. etc. :banghead:

We desperately need an inquisition…

This might give fundies ammunition, and rightly so. It’s utterly ridiculous.

But even if we didn’t have any of these travesties, they’d still object to us worshipping our goddess and our “Wafer.” It’s true Catholicism to which they object, not our abuses!

(Oooops, but this is the Liturgy forum, not the Non-Catholic Religions forum. My bad.)

Pax Christi. <><

no we don’t have them and please don’t tell my pastor about them we don’t need to add a third ring to his two ring circus

If our pastor tried to do a liturgical dance he would would very likely hurt himself.
Plus lose most of the congregation.

We have had liturgical dancers in our parish before for various prayer services which I found very moving. I do believe however, that they are either no longer permitted in church or during Mass.
I’m sure liturgical dancers would be right at home as decoration for a prayer service.

Luckily, the Catholic Church doesn’t have prayer services.

Personally I believe firmly that there should NEVER be any inculturization of the Mass or any Sacramental ceremony, and NEVER in a Church consecrated to the offering of the Holy Sacrifice. IT IS NOT for the Church to absorb the local culture into the Sacrifice of the Mass, but for the local culture to be absorbed into the Truths and Traditions of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. It cannot be, in my opinion, One and Catholic (universal), if local customs and habits are allowed to introduce ANY changes. The Church should never seek to conform to customs, but must always insist the the local customs conform to the Church.

This is by far one of the scariest things I have seen in quite a long time.

I had no idea this kind of stuff existed. Where do some of these priests get off allowing this stuff during a mass? :bigyikes: :tsktsk:

Allowing it? I understand some of them actually encourage it. :bigyikes:

I don’t have them and I hope to God we never get them, are faith has been watered down too much already, well thats my view.
It appears blasphemous, did the apostles dance around the table at the last supper, I think satan is dancing in our churches today.

It is funny - when I went to My Mom (who is a staunch Catholic) and told her our (old) parish had this type of activiy, - she said, but Moe … David Danced Naked in from of God …

Thanks be to God we don’t have that.

I think this is a serious LITURGICAL ABUSE … do you agree?

This is what the Bishops had to say on this previously.

“all dancing, (ballet, children’s gesture as dancing, the clown liturgy) are not permitted to be “introduced into liturgical celebrations of any kind whatever.” [NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS (BISHOPS’ COMMITTEE on the LITURGY) NEWSLETTER. APRIL/MAY 1982.]”

The USCCB needs to come out with a newer statement on this since this newsletter is prettry much ignored.
