I think you have a good point there. I’m giving it serious thought. If only it were that simple to avoid conflict.
I was encouraged by what you wrote, and hope to use the info to stop some of the criticism I’ve received… until I looked at my OCP accompniament books and hymnals. Upon reading this closely, it seems that the wording of the mass parts and the psalms from the lectionary are what have been approved by the US bishops,

not the hymns.
Scrutinizing the critics, and listening to their plentiful opinions and the documented
facts from the USSCB and The Vatican (much less plentiful) I had hoped to arm myself against future criticism and unharmonious happenings in church leadership and music ministry. Other than the statements of Gregorian chant holding pride of place but** NOT **being played to the exclusion of all else… it really doesn’t exist.
I have been told that music which in any way resembles the secular, in instrumentation or style, does not belong at mass. I have yet to see any documented proof of this. If anyone has it, I would pay money to read it, after which I would also have to put away my guitar, and most likely give up leading the music at mass, as I am not proficient in Gregorian chant.
