I would dearly love comments from my Eastern and Oriental Catholic brethren IN COMMUNION WITH ROME on the following article from NewAdvent:

newadvent.org/cathen/13064b.htm

What do you feel are the good and bad points, and WHY are they good or bad points.

Thank you.

Blessings

New Advent is notoriously out of date and many have said here and on other forums that it doesn’t represent the current understanding of Eastern Catholic Churches.

Marduk,

The article was triumphalistic when written; it has not improved with time. Even putting that aside, as my brother, Matt, has pointed out, the article conveys nothing of the current day situation or understanding of the Eastern and Oriental Catholic Churches. The point of discussing it is lost on me - there are enough problems involved in trying to have Western Catholics and others become aware of, understand, and appreciate Eastern and Oriental Catholicism and Orthodoxy - without revisiting the type of writing that contributed to the ignorance of generations past and regretably is still used to inform generations present.

Many years,

Neil

This is the first time I came upon the article. There were some points/notions I wanted to talk about that I had not heard of before, but if it is too sensitive a topic, I will just let it drop. I appreciate the response.

Blessings,
Marduk

Marduk,

Which points were those that you had not encountered previously?

Many years,

Neil

It has interesting and quite eloquent histories of the various western missae.

The material on the east is both bland and minimalist. Acknowledgement of “liturgical mush” as well.
