Liturgical use of mustum

**I have asked these questions of my Diocese and have received conflicting answers.

What is the proper use of mustum at Mass?

Is it only meant for the preist?

Can it be given to those in attendance at Mass?

If not why not? It is the Real Presence.

If a priest was given permission to use mustum and given permission to offer it at Communion - does this permission apply if the priest celebrates Mass in another parish?

Is the misuse of mustum at Mass illicit or invalid?

Please cite your response with liturgical references.**
 
Interesting questions. I’m interested in the answers as well. I’ve never even considered the idea of mustum being used, but you’re right, there must be provisions for it somewhere.

In Roman Catholic Eucharistic liturgy, must may be substituted for sacramental wine, on condition that the ordinary has granted permission for the benefit of a priest or lay person who should not, usually because of alcoholism, ingest wine; but in normal circumstances it may not be used in place of wine.[2]

This teaching goes back at least to Pope Julius I (337–352), who is quoted in Thomas Aquinas’s Summa Theologica as having declared that in case of necessity, but only then, juice pressed from a grape could be used. Aquinas himself declared that it is forbidden to offer fresh must in the chalice, because this is unbecoming owing to the impurity of the must; but he added that in case of necessity it may be done.[4]

I cannot use a Wikipedia as an official liturgical reference. Do you have any Church documents.
 
I know mustum is permitted for the priest. I don’t know about the laity but I would suggest that if any individual communicant knows him/herself to be alcoholic, (s)he can take communion in the the species of flesh (bread) only. It is a fully valid communion, and is full communion. Full communion occurs whether one receives in either form. It is not necessary to receive in both forms.
