If one is attracted to Mass according to the 1962 Missal are you under the impression that one must also be attracted to a lifestyle and traditions from the 1960’s, or earlier? Or do you believe one be quite adapted to life in 2017?
 
I would be concerned if someone had that attitude about the 1962 Missal, as though Mass were some kind of frozen in time historical reenactment. The Mass is timeless. Nothing wrong with living in the world in which we live and observing ancient rites of worship (which go way further back than 1962). If someone treated the Mass as the centerpiece of a kind of reenactment lifestyle, is it really God they’re worshipping, or the form of worship itself?

Having been raised pre-1962, my values and lifestyle as far as Catholic morals and principles have not changed. What was pleasing to God then is pleasing to Him now. What was sin then is sin now. I am not attracted to the EF as my regular worship, but my Catholic lifestyle choices are no different than if I were, except perhaps I would not go so far as to dress as some ultra-traditionalists insist on, but I maintain a modest but stylish dress. What I cover now is basically what I have always covered. As far as religious practices, they are the same except for the calendar changes and fasting rules. I am assuming you are not equating religious practices with such things as lifestyle–but I may be wrong.

The 1962 missal wasn’t much different than missals from the 1940’s, the 1890’s or the 1790’s,for that matter.

Lifestyles have changed over time a lot more than the liturgies, I don’t think there is a correlation here.

I believe one can be quite adapted to life in 2017 (or later). The Mass according to the 1962 Missal (by which I believe one most often is indicating the EF or “Latin Mass”) reflects, IMO, a contemplative and interior worship and attitude. It does not necessarily mean that the person who likes such an attitude/worship also likes to dress in clothes from 1962, listen to TV from 1962, radio from 1962, read books from 1962, etc. etc. In fact a person can quite happily be wearing his or her 2017 clothes, hair in a 2017 style, using 2017 cologne/perfume, with a Fitbit on the wrist, having gone to Zumba class the night before, reading the latest best seller on his/her Kindle, etc. etc. and attend said EF Mass as well.

IAs a lot of you know, my current parish is run by Father Ad Lib who joked a few weeks ago that as a child hearing the story of the 'Pharisee and the Publican" (as it was known even in the early years of the OF), he couldn’t understand for the life of him how God could ever praise a Republican, so right now, I would give anything for the reverent OF liturgy that most of you attend, even if my preference is for a quieter liturgy and the reverent OF is much more busy (and I’m not saying that isn’t good). When your liturgy is made up, you realize how much you miss a real Mass, and an OF is a real Mass. You realize that Mass was never about you and what you ‘liked’, but about what the Church in its wisdom (and its GIRM, and its missals, and its lectionary, none of which are used properly here) has given us.

And you stop getting annoyed with people doing yet another stereotyping (because it is always going to happen) and start getting more annoyed that people don’t realize how good they have it just having an authentic liturgy at ALL.
