Liturgy of the Eucharist question

Our priest normally quietly says the number of the Eucharistic prayer he is going to use after the Sanctus so that anyone who wants to can follow along in their missal or misalette. Today, instead of saying 1, 2, 3, or 4, he said reconciliation one. What is that and is it permissible? This was the first time he had ever done this, but he is usually a very orthodox priest so I didn’t really think it was wrong. What do you think?

Where the words of the prayer those of Eucharistic prayer one of where they different? If they where the same then there’s no problem. If they were different then I’m afraid I can’t help you.
 
There are a number of Eucharistic Prayers beyond the “standard” four. In the back of the Sacramentary there are three Eucharistic prayers for children (currently be readdressed by Rome) and two Eucharistic Prayers for Reconciliation. The priest was using a valid Eucharistic Prayer.

Thanks! I didn’t know if there were others separate from the “standard” four or not. I didn’t think he was doing anything wrong, I’d just never heard it before at any parish!😊

Sorry, I didn’t know that it was approved, which is why I asked the question in the first place.

Actually, there are some rules on this. EPs I, II, and III may be used on any day whatsoever.
EP IV may NOT be used on certain Sundays (only permitted on Sundays of Ordinal Time), nor on weekdays if those Masses have proper preface already.

I am not sure on the EPs for Reconcilliation. I’ve looked for norms which state when they may or may not be used, but I’ve come up empty.

Does anyone else out there have any sources on this? I don’t use them, so I’ve never bothered to look, and cannot find any reference to their use in the GIRM. Yes, I know they are valid prayers, but the question is *when *may they be used?
