In the intercession, some times there is an “or” listed and two more intercessions follow.

Example: EP I, 2nd week in Psalter-

In your goodness give and preserve the fruits of the earth,
– so that each day there may be bread enough for all.
Lord, we trust in you.

(Or:

Graciously protect our nation from evil,
– that it may prosper in your peace.
Lord, we trust in you. )

Lord, you attend the dying with great mercy,
– grant them an eternal dwelling.
Lord, we trust in you.

“Or” implies this or that… what is the “this” and what is the “that?”

The “this” is

In your goodness give and preserve the fruits of the earth,
– so that each day there may be bread enough for all.
Lord, we trust in you.

The “that” is

Graciously protect our nation from evil,
– that it may prosper in your peace.
Lord, we trust in you.

In other words, you say one of these intercessions; the choice is yours.

Unless I am misunderstanding you, we say all of the intercessions.

This “or” might also be related to the copy you’re using. I’ve seen it on iBreviary, for instance, but in another copy I have, I only see an OR between entire sections of intercessions, indicating you can choose the first set or the second.

It is in both the four-volume editions and Christian Prayer. Such options exist for Week II of the Ordinary Time offices: Sunday Evening Prayer I (this thread’s example) and Wednesday Evening Prayer.

Okay, I see what you mean now. I had thought that you meant we pick out one line of intercession and say just that one.
