For now I am using the one-volume “Christian Prayer” (Pauline version). I’d like to celebrate as fully as possible, and this means not only the Biblical reading, but also the non-Biblical reading daily, too. Problem is, all readings aren’t included and, for those that are, it is near impossible to figure out which readings belong on what days. So, the question is:

Does anybody know of an online source for the non-Biblical readings on a daily basis? Or is there some other way to approach this that I may not be thinking of? I’ve talked to my deacon already, and our parish only does the Morning and Evening Prayer.

Thanks to anybody that can help… 🙂

Peace,
Fred

Alberch,

I don’t know another source for the non-biblical readings, but I do have a possible solution for you.

If you are holding off getting the 4 book set, because of the cost, do what I did; I bought 1 book at a time, just before the season began, for that book to begin. This way you only have to buy one book every 3 - 4 months, for about 35 bucks or so. If your short cash when the next book starts, just use the single book until you can get the new one.

Do you have the little paper guide for the one volumn version?

Sort of. :o I have the Pauline guide, but not the CBPC guide (I figured that the page numbers wouldn’t quite match up…) The Pauline guide, while helpful for (very) general instruction and in keeping straight the calendar, doesn’t provide much in the way of specifics.

Hopefully, though, I’ll be “graduating” to the full LotH before long. I’m sure that I will appreciate the completeness of it. Of course, if any others out there that have gone from the one-volume to the four-volume set would like to share their experiences… 😉

And, to everyone that’s responded thus far: Thank You!!!

Cheers,
Fred

I can tell you that I went from the “Shorter Christian Prayer” version of the Liturgy of the Hours to the full version and I loved it.

I have recently had a kid and had to scale back a little to just Morning, Afternoon, and Evening prayer, but when I was doing the full Liturgy including Office I loved it. It helped me get a better appreciation for the Bible, including sections of the OT that I use to have a tough time understanding.

I highly suggest going out and paying the money for the 4 volume set, it really helps having different readings for the different seasons of the church.

As for the question about an online source, try here:

P.S. If you pick up the set, make sure you get the paper guide, it really helps if you stop for a short time or during seasons with lots of festivals, saint days, etc.
