They’re there in the book (Christian Prayer), but no one I know has ever used them. Are they ever used?

I have been praying LOTH in groups for over 10 years and they are always used, so I don’t know who has been leading yours sessions and why they are omitted.

I’m sixteen and have been praying some form of them for about a year and the official form for a few months…Maybe its an American thing? 😃

This is the apostolate for the Liturgy of the Hours…You can print out a booklet form in several languages offered on exactly how the liturgy of the hours is said if you are confused. My spouse and I do Morning and Evening prayer together every day. God bless you!

not anymore, they charge now.

I use the 1 volume and it has Psalm-prayers but i have never used them personally, and when i say it in a group we dont use them. And i have said the office with many a different group

Yes, liturgyof the hours.org, now charges for their services; but I noticed that they don’t include the psalm prayers, at least in the booklet form (I use it to make copies for use at our parishes holy hour). I always wandered why.

The reason for this is in the General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours:
  1. Psalm-prayers for each psalm are given in the supplement to The Liturgy of the Hours as an aid to understanding them in a predominantly Christian way. An ancient tradition provides a model for their use: after the psalm a period of silence is observed, then the prayer gives a resume and resolution of the thoughts and aspirations of those praying the psalms.
The keyword in par. 112 is supplement. The Latin typical edition does not print the Psalm-prayers, instead moving them to a supplement. This means the Psalm-prayers are optional, and may be omitted.

I have recently been saying the LOTH at some hours. I am not consistent yet, I just started last week. I have been saying the Psalm-prayers. The only problem is that I only have one of the four volume set and that volume ended about 2 weeks ago so I can’t see the proper of the seasons or the proper of the saints for this part of the year.

According to Madeline Pecora Nugent’s outstanding guide to praying the LoH, *The Divine Office for Dodos, *the Psalm prayers may be omitted. I rarely omit them and find that they can be excellent points of departure for meditation.
