I’ve been wanting to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, but I have no idea how to do it. Does anybody know of a website on how to pray the Liturgy of the Hours?

Go to this link and download the file Discovering Prayer. It is big and useful.

Thank you for the websites! So is the Liturgy of the Hours something you would do at Church with a Priest and Congregation, or can it be done at home?

I’m new to Catholicism if you haven’t noticed already, so please excuse me if I ask questions that may seem obvious:o
The Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office, can be prayed as a group or in private. When I say in private I mean by oneself as this prayer is the Prayer of the Church and is always prayed with the entire Church. The Hours can be led by an ordained bishop or priest and can also be led by the laity (those of us who are not ordained). I pray the Divine Office almost daily. The Morning Prayers (Lauds) and the Evening Prayers (Vespers) are the two main hinges of the Hours. Anyone who is ordained is mandated to pray the Hours daily. We, as the laity, are highly encouraged to pray the Office although we are not mandated to.

This is a good secret as probably most Catholics do not pray the L:iturgy of the Hours. These prayers, consisting mostly of the psalms, are an effective way to maintain a constant prayerlife. I have to go to my Confirmation class’ Christmas party but let me know if I can be of further help. the website in the above post seems very helpful. I did not have that one. There are probably many others as well as books that you can purchase to help you in praying the Office…God Bless…teachccd

My deacon suggested praying the morning and evening prayers. I started this a week ago (first Sunday of Advent) and I hope to continue.

With the book Shorter Christian Prayer it is still a little confusing.

I download the Morning Prayer from divineoffice.org/ and pray along with them on my iPod.

I highly recommend the Liturgy of the Hours! 👍 I’ve been praying it for almost a year and it is by far the most consistent I’ve ever been in praying every day.

You will need a book to begin with and you have a couple of options.

The 4 volume set has everything you need to pray all of the hours all year long. On the down side it is rather expensive, but I hear you can buy one book at a time spreading the cost out over the year a bit.

Christian Prayer is one book and has everything for Morning and Evening Prayer and shorter versions of day and night prayer and the office of readings. This is what I use, I think it is a good mix of being fairly complete while not being too much or too expensive.

Shorter Christian Prayer has the basics for Morning and Evening prayer, but not all the stuff for the various seasons and Saints. It has night prayer, but no daytime prayers.

The Magnificat is a magazine subscription that has some basic morning and evening prayers. I’ve never used it, but it is quite popular and could be good if you just want something VERY basic.
