Are the morning and evening prayer in the Magnificat the Liturgy of the Hours? I have a christian prayer book but it is hard for me to understand. I get the magnificat and it is a whole lot eaiser, I was just wondering if it is the same thing.

From the website here:

“Each day also includes beautiful prayers for both morning and evening, drawn from the riches of the Liturgy of the Hours”

This suggests to me that what you receive in the Magnificat publication is an excerpted or abbreviated form of morning and evening prayer, not the complete office.

Do you find it easier because there is no page flipping involved in the Magnificat version: just open to the correct day and it’s all there? (I don’t subscribe, so I don’t know for sure that’s the case).

You might find it helpful in learning to compare with the texts available from ebreviary.com for Friday and Sunday.

There is also a schedule to help supplement the St Joseph’s guide at the St Thomas More House of Prayer site. liturgyofthehours.org/todays-pages/christian-prayer
That link is for the single volume Christian Prayer book. This gives you page numbers for antiphons, special readings and such. There is a chart for MP and a chart for EP. I found it to be more useful than the St Joseph’s Guide.

They have a Vespers tutorial at that site but I couldn’t get it working. It would probably be helpful to hear a recording once. You could try to follow the recordings at this site - divineoffice.org/

Once you’re on schedule and familiar with the layout of the book, the flipping, etc, it should get easier. It also helps to keep the ribbons in certain areas of the book according to color. For instance I have white for Saints, Blue for music, etc

edit: It occurred to me after posting that this is the Traditional Catholicism forum. I was referring to the newer Christian Prayer and not the older Roman Breviary. If you meant a Traditional Breviary then I’m sorry for the mistake.
