Hi,

I am interested in learning how to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, preferably the 1962 version. I’ve tried doing some research, but I honestly don’t know where to start and what anything means! So I was wondering if someone here could help me understand it.

Thanks.

I began my Liturgy of the Hours journey with The Divine Hours Pocket Edition, compiled by Phyllis Tickle. I highly recommend it; it’s an abbreviated version that lets you get your feet wet without losing your mind. 🙂

Three Liturgy of the Hours websites. I can’t speak to pre-Vatican II or the use of the bound books. (The cheapest set I’ve found was about $130.00.) I use the Universalis version, which I can format and download to my Kindle using their software. During Lent I prayed all but two of the hours daily (I spent a lot of time with my nose in my Kindle :). I’ve cut down post-Easter. Now I’m only doing the Mass readings, the Office of Readings, and Compline.

The instructions and how-to’s are on the websites. Universalis is free, but the options are limited. If you have an iPhone, you can download a free app from iTunes. The Divine Office is online only, if I remember correctly. The ebreviary is free on the website but if you want to print it out, you have to pay.

Hope this helps.
