Liturgy of the Word with Children

Mostly because it doesn’t work, as it is a gimmick.
Gimmicks don’t cut it n the world of worship and catechesis.
How in the world did the millions of Catholic children grow up in Mass? all over the world?

Not only is is gimmicky, it is very often abused. I have been at parishes where all children under the age of 10 or even 12 were invited out to the Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Once the child has reached the age of preparing for First Confession/First Communion (roughly age 7) he/she should be attending a whole Mass.

IMHO, if a parish wants something for the very young, who aren’t obligated to be at Mass anyway, just have a program that runs through Mass, not an in-and-out process. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, for example.
