Hi,

Does anybody know if there are to be any alterations in the English Liturgy translations in Canada? I have seen some of the changes by the American conference of Bishops- and I am sincerely hoping something similar is happening in Canada.

Thanks,

Pax Christi vobis.

Jordan, the entire Roman Missal is being translated into English for all English speaking countries, so yes, Canada is going to see it here too.

What you have seen on the USCCB website is the translation of the Ordinary of the Mass. The Vatican has allowed this part of the Roman Missal to be published so that the national bishops can prepare teaching materials and composers can have settings ready to go when the entire Roman Missal is promulgated in the next 18-24 mo.

Thank you. I have only an elementary knowledge of Latin, but even I can see that the English translations have been deficient- e.g. regards to the Roman Canon (!) or other portions of the Missal. It frustrates me that the theological motivations of some appear to have shaded the meaning of the actual Roman Liturgy in their favor.

FYI,

The US Bishops have just set up a web site to track the progress of the translation, and for some basic resources.

usccb.org/romanmissal/

As mentioned above, this is a translation for the entire English speaking world, so progress here is progress there 🙂
