So I’ve heard that you can kill animals if they are going to kill you or you want to eat it, what about tiny bacteria and other kinds of pathogens that get into your body to cause desiese, can you take medicine to kill them even if the desiese that these bacteria cause won’t kill you, they will just make you sick?

Similarly what about killing mosquitoes before they’re about to bite you?

You are asking if it is a moral issue to kill bacteria or mosquitos?

Michael, get help for your scruples. PLEASE!
not sure raising a question is a sure sign of being scrupulous. the poster did not seem to express fear or remorse for having swatted a fly or stepping on a bug.

the question, is in my opinion, fair game for an interesting thread and discussion.

Killing non-human organisms isn’t necessarily a sin. In fact, there are times when it would be completely responsible to kill a human organism. Like, in self-defense, which the catechism says that you have the right to. Personally, I think the question is a bit ridiculous, it’s not that it’s not an honest question and I believe you’re sincere, but I just don’t think you’re asking the right things. I’m not sure how to explain it. But no, it’s not a sin to kill a microorganism. if it was, you would be a committing a sin every time you wash your hands. I hope you do wash your hands.

You’re actively killing microorganisms right now thanks to your Integrated Immuno Defense System (IIDS).

That’s really between you and your Physician. Most people don’t need Antibiotics and Antivirals for a simple cold. However, a case of Strep Throat can lead to life threatening complications. It would be unwise to reject Antibiotics in that instance.

They can transmit diseases and are a pest. Kill them at your discretion and wear repellent.

Interestingly, if you believe it, I read an article a few months ago which said that we are around 43% microbes and bacteria! Imagine that, who are we exactly?

Someone once said that when you swat a mosquito don’t feel sorry for it, the blood you see was yours! Aargh.

Listen, I dont know the theological implications of this but please, people, please, clean your bathrooms and the bottom of the fruit crisper in the fridge!

I think in the case of bacteria one of the issues is consciousness: are they even conscious of their own existence? If not, coupled with the fact that they have the potential of causing real harm, I say feel free to kill them: that is, the bad ones, since we need the good ones.
