My nieces live in Utah and are devout LDS and THEY are having trouble fitting in b/c they are not “Utah Mormons.” They both say there is a Stepford quality to life there- LOL.

If it hasn’t happened by now, expect your family to be proselytized.

Yes, there is a distinct difference between a person that is born in Utah Mormon and a out of state Mormon. The friends that I do have that are Mormon are not from Utah. Funny thing really…

OH and life is different. It’s like living in a bubble that is about 5-10 years behind the rest of the world. That’s not to say we don’t have malls and Old Navy but the family values are REALLY high here whether your LDS or not. You just don’t see that in alot of places these days.

Hi, just curious. If you lived in a predominately Catholic town by choice and design, and were so dedicated to your religion that all activities and all social events revolved around your parish, and then a family of atheists moved in next door to you, how open and inviting would you be to them?

Whatever you want to say about Mormons, they are committed to their faith. So much so that their choices for where they live, what they do, and who they associate with revolve around their religion. You have a different religion with a different set of values and beliefs. I don’t believe they are being cliqueish or rude, I believe they are being selective, and they have every right to do so. If they don’t want their kids to associate with yours, it is because they don’t want what in their mind would be a negative influence. I don’t let my kids watch Cartoon Network because I feel the shows do not reflect my values, and I don’t want my kids corrupted. I am not being rude to my TV, only selective. I believe the Mormons in your community are excercising their same right to sheild their children from dissimilar external influences.

I agree that you should get involved in your parish, and if they don’t have events that you want, then volunteer to set them up. I am sure others are finding themselves in the same boat as you.
