Oh, I agree, jrabs,& my socks are constantly getting shocked off. When you think of things like an actual “embryo bank” in San Antonio, where people can choose from ready-made embryos, & researchers in Europe getting the green light to fertilize embryos that are human/animal… It’s easy to get depressed. I know you’re right that prayer & trust in Jesus is key.

Looking back over my post, I realize I’m getting way off topic. To get back to the original, I think a few weeks ago a major study came out by the American Academy of Pediatrics or some organization like that that found these images are unhealthy for young girls’ self-esteem. Imagine that…

I think that porn wouldn’t have such a strong hold on our society, if people felt loved at home. Columbine, etc…shows that children lack love at home…lack attention from their parents. Nothing can replace that. When it falls short from our parents/guardians…we will search for it elsewhere…When a girl dresses seductively, especially a young teenager, I don’t look at her with judgement…I look at her as …‘is this girl loved at home, namely from her dad?’ Or is she seeking attention and love from a man, because she’s not getting it at home? Unfortunately, so many of our youth today fall into that latter category…for whatever the reasons, parents are too busy…throw money at the kids…whatever…they are not loving their kids, in the ways they need it. They are not validating their kids’ feelings. It’s part of the natural maturation process…for a young girl…to receive her validation from her dad. If that is absent…it can cause her to seek it elsewhere. Now, there are kids who just like to follow the crowd…but, I speaking in generalities…when we look at the problems with our youth becoming sexualized–it seems at younger and younger ages. Media is to blame, but the media cannot be entirely to blame.
I remained a virgin until I married my husband…but, I speak from experience. I did not feel love growing up…my dad died when I was young, and my BIL raised me, and showed me little love and attention. What happened was that I sought that validation from other boys…soon men. Thankfully, I met a loving man who understood this about me, and by God’s grace and his love…enabled me to get past that.

i have noticed that people with both low esteem and those with overly ego driven behvior tend to act similar.
as a young woman, i had some girlfriends who were very promiscuous. some were underconfident and acted in self destructive ways because of a extreme desire for love. but i had other friends who were very ‘me’ driven. they slept around because they wanted to and they really couldn’t understand why anyone would not respect them afterwards.
in my son’s former fifth grade class, he was given weekly self esteem classes. i don’t know why his class needed this course. but i would imagine that for some kids such a class would encourage very egocentric behavior.
by the way there have been some studies shown that the more ego driven a person is, the easier they will take offense at being teased. so, columbine could have been caused byeither overly confident kids as well as underconfident, unloved children. the two killers families have not really spoken up, so i don’t know which might be the case.

The solution is to act like Catholics wherever we are. I didn’t choose to add trashy images of celebrities to magazine covers or place porn magazines at my local grocery but I don’t buy them. I don’t want satellite or cable anything. The radio in my car stays off unless I’m listening to a Catholic station. My news comes off certain internet sites minus the useless celebrity info.
The way things are is no accident, It’s taken about 30 years to get here but things have hit bottom. I believe when enough people begin to realize that following the example set by the world is hurting them and the people they care about, they will reconsider their lives. Don’t despair, since God will not abandon His Church.

The world is purified through suffering. When will the culture hit rock bottom? It’s hard to know because each new week seems to bring a new shocking reminder of how depraved human beings can be when they abandon God. We must continue to pray and display courage when standing up to the truth.

sadly, i have not led the most pure life so there are some aspects of my past life that would cause other christians to judge me harshly.

I have been very disturbed about an ad that has been running in our church paper for the last 2 months. The ad reads “BEST LITTLE WHORE HOUSE IN TEXAS” full dinner and fun play $65.00. I have tried to have the ad removed but the lady running it tells me it can’t be done. I have called the editer’s office and left messages with the church office and the Paster with no return calls. Most people I have talked to, tell me they see nothing wrong with it. It seems that all I can do now is pray that God will take care it. Any suggestions are welcome.

It’s not porn - I saw the movie. It’s kind of trashy, and I saw the movie years ago, but it’s not porn. That said, I really don’t see any reason to advertise it in a Church bulletin.

the movie is not porn, although i think that it is a highly questionable ad to have in one’s church paper.
in the seventies there was a comedy about a whorehouse in texas. i remember it being very stupid but certainly not porn.
i only saw part of it on hbo before my grandma turned it off in disgust. i think that dolly parton was in it.it wasn’t a very moral movie so i agree it shouldn’t be in your church paper. you might get further not calling it porn, though.
