Is it okay for me to live in the same apartment complex as my girlfriend? We are both practicing Catholics and would like to be able to spend more time together. We would be living and sleeping in different apartments that are not even in the same building, but still a short walking distance from one another.

Maybe it’s a good thing! Living close makes it easy for either of you to go to your own home after a visit. If you’re worried about it, just set reasonable house rules, curfews, etc.

My lease is ending and I am looking to move into an apartment. I just want to make sure that we are not putting ourselves in the near occasion of sin!

I want to see if other Catholics objectively think that by moving into her apartment complex I’m not putting us into the near occasion of sin. I feel like it would be good because we can spend time together and always go back to our own place without worrying about the other driving home. To me it also seems like it would prevent scandal because its obvious that we don’t live together since we would have 2 apartments, even though we spend a lot of time together.

Are the two of you headed to marriage?

If it is less than serious, just make sure that you can still be good neighbors if you break up!

That is a good point. We are definitely serious though and would like to get married some day, but I don’t see that happening for another year or so. We’ve been dating about 8 months and want to give it a more time.

Nothing wrong with it. I don’t think it would be a great occasion of sin because you aren’t living together you just live close by.

Living in the same apartment complex is fine. Living in the same apartment (ie: moving in together) is not.

The cockroaches in the attic of the triplex meant that I had to move family early while dating my now wife.

I moved up the street from her–a longer commute, but better rent for a nicer place.

It meant, to my step-father’s delight, that I ate there most nights–as he put it, she and my mother gave dinner “the full treatment” when I was there 😜🤣

And now that I think about it, giving the timing of meeting her and my moving, that meant that she had already been breaking into my apartment if I didn’t voluntarily hand over my laundry . . . (she was rather distressed by my skill [or lack thereof] in such things! 😱)

hawk, who still isn’t allowed to touch the domestic appliances (except to install and repair them!)

In the 3 months before I married my husband, I lived within walking distance of his home.

Why would it not be okay? You’re not going to be living in the same common living space (i.e. apartment). Would it be okay for you to live in separate houses on the same street? If that’s okay, why can you not live in separate apartments in the same building?
