Hi My name is Deana and I just wanted to share the story of miracle baby Samuel. I posted this also on the morality forum- I hope that is ok unless there is a rule that you can’t post the same post in two different places. I though it fit in both so I hope it is ok.
If you remember around the the time of the Terri Shivo Case there was another case in the news about a little boy in Texas that the Texas hospital was going to remove and take off a ventilator. I believe the baby’s name was Sun Hudson. Sun Hudson was born with the same condition as Samuel.
Samuel was born a Thanatophoric Dwarf. It is Also called Thanatophoric Dysplasia. It is a condition considered incompatible with life. Usually the only treatment offered to most moms is a theraputic abortion. If the baby is carried to term and born alive then usually parents are talked out of life saving interventions. Well this little guys family said no, and by the grace of God this little tyke is surviving against all odds. Docs had even said he would be a vegetable and not be able to give or receive love or smile or interact. Well you can see by his darling smile the Docs were wrong. He needs continued support and prayer. I want to let families know that if they ever have to face the choice of whether to put their child on a ventilator that these children do not live in pain and do have a very wonderful quality of life. I don’t always think doctors give parents all the information necessary to make an informed decision. I think doctors in many cases scare people away from life saving procedures especially when they feel there is supposedly no hope.
Samuel is now 3 1/2 years old and his family just got back from a trip to Disney given to them by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
He is an absolute cutie. Here are all my updates on him on my blog There are some really really cute pictures of Samuel and you can see he is enjoying life to the fullest! I am glad his parents chose life for him.
