Ordinarily, I’d post this on ask an apologist, but I’d rather get some replies from the community right now: Is there anything wrong with human colonization of other worlds with a presence of the faithful on those colonies? is there anything wrong with an interstellar, space-faring human race?

Out of curiosity, why would you think there would be anything wrong with that?

It has occurred to me that maybe our race’s being flummoxed at every turn in space travel is the will of God, so that everybody will be on the Earth for the second coming of our LORD.

But I would LOVE to be proven wrong!

Think about it this way. There is nothing in Scripture or the Church concerning space travel.

So if we make it, it must be within the will of God.

If we colonize other worlds, than we might/would take our sinful natures with us, giving the devil more room to move.

What would be the difference in crossing the Atlantic in the 18th century and crossing the distance to the next habitable solar system in the 22nd century?

The first command ever given by God was to be fruitful, multiply, subdue and have dominion over the earth. There is no reason to think that this command should not be extended to any land in the universe.

Mars may surpass earth as the most beautiful planet if we do a good job of terraforming and gardening it.

BIG difference!

How is adventuring through outer space safer than adventuring through water?? I wouldn’t want some black hole to devour our ships, or some asteroid storm to crash-land us into the planet of the apes!

If we wish to explore the universe, then why can’t we just wait until after we die? We wouldn’t need food, water, or air in our spiritual forms? I’m sure God would allow us. 🤷

Personally on that matter of God allowing us to visit other worlds spiritually: i doubt that as we would be stuck in heaven and happy as can be. However, I did read an article on the site about the first crusade where dead crusaders and angels joined the living in their battles against the muslims after a relic was discovered or something along those lines.

I don’t see any problem with it.

We’ve got maybe a billion years left before the sun changes its cycle that will make this planet inhospitable anyways.

Don’t be so sure, my friend.

Such matters are the concern of those on the pilgrimage.

I doubt it. Too cold (only 1/2 of Earth-level sunlight) and even after terraformation, too much terrain where we’d be unable to breathe.

I am beginning to concur that successful cosmic exploration by human beings might need to wait for our pneumatikon soma.

Living on other planets is not wrong.
but we must treat the natives with love.

Well, “not of this earth, aliens, other outer space living life forms” is something I cannot fathom. Not because I believe or not believe - I choose to not let my imagination go out that far! I have discovered keeping my life simple and basic for me is better! No stress! It is enough to just believe in God, daily prayers, and complete trust in Him. If He chooses to have other life forms all over the universe - who am I to complain and what difference does it make to me as long as we all love God??

Well our sun has a few billion years left of juice, so it would be a good idea to colonize other planets. I’d join the Enterprise to help explore.

Well, since time and space are not constant, which our meager science has proven (basically God can just do as he pleases with them for our perceptions of them), I think it’s fun to think of colonizing other planets. If God wills it, it can happen, and we have no idea what he sees for the future. As long as we do anything that we, as the human species, do in a God-like manner, for example following the golden rule and not for selfish or greedy reasons, we could possibly do this in the future! I, for one, believe that as we, as the human race, were embarking upon examining how large the universe is, God threw in the concept that we can’t find the end/edges of it–just to prove his awesomeness and infinite nature. So my point is that He will allow us to do what He wants to allow us to do, and if that involves colonizing other planets, then hey, it could be interesting!

Okay, so pretty much…
Science is not worth a hoot, am I correct?
reason is worth something, but the main thing is faith, right?
Who cares about the way the physical world works, am I correct? that is the overall opinion of the Church, right?
And caring about technology is foolish, right? the Church sees it as disposable?

No, where did you get this idea? The Church absolutely embraces science. The science vs. religion notion is a false division.

Sorry,
i’ve been getting real worked up these past few weeks on the conflict with rad trads, semi-rad trads, something some people have said, stuff in my books, questions about playing video games, and what not.

Incorrect.

You are dealing with ambiguity and the unknown with something called dichotomous thinking, or black and white thinking. You might want to listen to some videos on Father Barron’s You Tube channel as he discusses science and religion etc. Religion and science are not mutually exclusive.

For example, regarding exploring other worlds, I don’t think anyone here has suggested that it would be sinful.

Personally, my own opinion is that exploring other worlds requires cooperation between peoples of different beliefs, cultures, and governments because of cost. I can’t recall the source, but I listened to a sermon somewhere that said basically that sin produces “division”. Of course, we cannot improve in the area of “sin” without God’s help. So if you are looking for a correlation between “faith” and “space travel”, then the I would suggest that we need to do better in the “faith department” to achieve the “cooperation” necessary for interstellar, or even interplanetary travel.

That is one reason why I believe that every effort in the department of evangelization is important. We cant’ achieve cooperation without God’s help.

Thus, whether our future is a “Star Trek” type of future, or a “Hunger Games” type of future, may depend on the success of evangelization.

So everyone’s effort in this area is important.
