Father Kenneth Himes on the Theology faculty at Boston College who in 2004 in a published article said Catholic politicians could support abortion and still be good Catholics. He also recently wrote a book with Charles Curran who led the dissent against Humana Vitae and whose faculties as a priest were withdrawn.
This really infuriates me that they would bring him to this parish which serves as the local Newman Center.

Father Himes is a Catholic Theologian whose teaching credentials have not been withdrawn by the Church. I am not sure why you think he is a “dissident.” I don’t know much about him, but I don’t think he is a dissident. I did a quick google search and learned that his comments on legislators and abortion were an explanation of the Pope’s instructions on the issue in Veritatus Splendor and didn’t seem dissident to me at all.

I have no dog in this, I just think that if you are going to publicly accuse a Church official of something you should make sure you are on good ground when you do so.

Fr. Himes is not a moral theologican but a systematic theologian and specialises in ecclesiology if I recall. I have heard him speak several times and have watched his video lectures many times. I have never heard him say anything that could be called dissident. We use his videos in the parish with different groups and no complaints have ever been voiced. He is also a good speaker, not boring at all.
