A huge swarm of Locusts have apparently swarmed Las Angeles USA.
Is it Gods doing like in the 10 Commandments movie (pharaoh Egypt scene) or does God not “interfere” this way anymore and it’s just weather and lighting related?

Locust and grasshopper hordes are a natural phenomenon.
What made them “God’s doing” in the OT is primarily the timing of the locust invasion. God says he will send some punishment and destructive crop-eating locusts shortly thereafter appear.

The grasshoppers (not locusts) in Las Vegas are caused by wet weather creating an abundance of them. The particular breed of grasshopper is not destructive to plants growing in Las Vegas, and Las Vegas isn’t exactly a big agrarian area, so they’re pretty much just a nuisance. No big deal.

You should read the Laura Ingalls Wilder books with the horrific descriptions of the locust invasions that destroyed Midwest harvests and reduced settlers to near starvation in the 1880s.

They are a natural phenomenon but God is in all the tiny details of natural phenomena.

They are migrating, at least that’s what I heard from the article I read.

Thanks.
Was it “Gods doing” in the Old Testament then or was it that it was natural phenomena even then but that people attributed everything to God?
Eg:there are some stories in the Old Testament that say “God took xyz life to avoid such and such” and as the stories are told from a ‘first hand perspective” the people of the times likely interpreted every illness and death as Gods direct doing.

Then on the other hand,if everything is looked at as just natural phenomena-illness,locusts,natural disaster etc…where does that then leave God?

Did God at some point in history stop having direct involvement/interference with the world or is it like how someone mentioned-it’s natural but God is in the detail-ie:it’s both?

Also what should we make of the other stories of Gods “interfer/intervenance” such as Sodom and Gomorrah and Ananias and wife Sapphira death?
Are these literal events or just “myths” meant as teaching lessons?

Historians apparently even believe that the exodus of Jews from Egypt never happened so it makes me question my belief a bit.

In the modern world though, there are also many cases of innocent people being subjected to suffering and death (eg:children in Syria) so I don’t know is it nature or God…
I probably shouldn’t think so deep🤦‍♀️

It’s fine to think deeply about these issues so long as you don’t expect to find definitive answers. That’s the nature of faith: if we had all the answers we wouldn’t need faith because we would have certainty. Of course sometimes too much doubting can be destructive of faith, but even this, as well as reasoning, can result in the strengthening of faith.

If some disaster happens to the agrarian areas of California, it won’t be because of “the sins of California”, it will be because some disasters are a natural part of living in California or because planning for things such as insect control (or fire control or management of water resources etc) was poor.

Destructive locusts have hit various parts of the US before. As someone said, Laura Ingalls Wilder experienced them as a young farm wife. The locusts weren’t hitting her area because all the farmers were sinful, any more than the Dust Bowl happened because the farmers in that area were sinful.

He does, but one of the lessons we have to learn on earth is that he doesn’t always punish the wicked on earth and you might very well sin 24/7 for your whole life, have a good time with few or no consequences, and then get a bad surprise when you die. This was a big revelation for me because I was raised on cautionary tales of kids and young people who did a bad thing and then suffered a consequence in the near future because of it. For example, every young adult fiction book I read in which some teenage girl had sex ended with her having to deal with an unplanned/ unwanted pregnancy or some other terrible thing happening to her. When I was a child, stories about kids who disobeyed their mothers always ended with them getting some illness or injury or losing a prized possession or some other awful conclusion where they wished they had listened to Mom.

In real life, God doesn’t always “zap” you like that and you have to come around to doing His will out of love for him, not out of fear of a disastrous punishment. In my case, when I did a few bad things and didn’t get “zapped” I kinda thought “it must be no big deal then” which is the wrong way to live your life.

In addition, good people often suffer when they have not done anything to bring it on.

From a Entomological perspective, I would’ve liked to see them once.

As a child I saw the 17 year cicada swarms in the Chicago area and was horrified! We couldn’t walk to school without crunching them underfoot and swatting them from our hair. I remember tree trunks completely covered with them. I’ll never forget that! Closest thing we have in my area now are swarms of mayflies that can completely cover cars, for example.

For those of you who claim this is not a sign… explain to me this - locusts? Ok. But WHY Las Vegas?
