I have been told that when the unlimited became limited he took on certain limitations. God has to follow logic. So what logic do we follow. Thoughts of boolean algebra come to mind but I know it’s not that. How do we learn about him in regards to logic?

Jesus used the logic of human reason given to all men and also the logic of faith. Also, he recieved from the Father the knowledge God wanted him to have concerning his mission and the Eternal Realities. As a man, he would not have been familiar with the philosophy of Aristotle, which may have contained the first formal efforts at the philosophy of correct reasoning ( logic ). Linus2nd

Logic is a very complex topic. Its laws are very precise. Because of this, unfortunately, sharp minds can misuse logic (as every tool) for their own purposes, covering fallacious arguments with some logical soundness, all the while only someone with an equivalent grasp of the matter can p(name removed by moderator)oint the error and unmask the argument.

God’s existence is a great example. Many members of the atheist religion base their faith in the nonexistence of God on the absence of evidence for His existence. Besides the fact that there is such evidence, let’s say none of it is valid in their eyes. Thus, having rejected all evidence as invalid, they claim there is no God. How unfortunate that this is an argumentum ad ignorantiam, a logical fallacy in the form: “if you cannot prove your claim, then your claim is false”. While one should not accept premises without proof, absence of proof does not imply the premise is false: it merely means there is no (acceptable) proof to substantiate the evidence.

But someone somewhat learned in logic can ignore this and still make the claim for the purpose of deceiving those who don’t know it’s an erroneous way of reasoning. Another typical error is when we mention that many of the brightest scientists were Catholic, or that most of the human population has always believed in God (or in a supernatural, spiritual realm) and they employ logic to dismiss our argument by saying these are fallacious appeals to authority or to large numbers. True, but while that may not be valid evidence for God’s existence, they do reveal that there’s something odd going on, and that their arguments against Catholicism and against religion are not so obvious and reasonable, if (a) very sharp minds and (b) in general most of mankind believes in what they try to dismiss. It is possible that their post-XVIII religion (grouping in US about 2% of population, with 33% retention rate) is right and everyone else is wrong, but it’s a hard one to swallow.

Finally: who told you the unlimited became limited? 😉 God is God, with no limitation. God however has a nature and acts according to that nature. This means that omnipotence does not allow for impossible things (such as creating a circular square, doing something evil, or going against the laws of logic). God can suspend the physical laws if He wills, but He simply can’t go against them or break them, for that would be nonsense.

Logic of human reason? But humans are flawed. We are lost without god.

Response to post 2. Of course, we can never know for sure if Jesus knew about Aristotle. However, it is very possible. Aristotle was known by Jesus’s contemporaries. Educated people from that area and time were familiar with Plato,Aristotle, Buddha…
We have a false notion of the ancients. We think each culture was isolated from all others. We forget (just one example) that Alexander the great actually went to India and that was 300 years before Christ’s time on earth.

Solomon was reasoning in the logics of, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding long before Aristotle was born. Logic in and of its self is no more then a computer like system that is a garbage in garbage out.

Yes, but is walking on water logical or illogical? Is restoring a withered limb logical or illogical, casting out of demons or healing of the lunatic? Therefore what logic is there that God is supposed to follow? Again garbage in garbage out. If you don’t know that God doesn’t follow any thing, then you have a reversal of truth, that is not true, that can seem logical. In other words your statement of “God has to follow logic” is incorrect.

Don’t worry about any relationship between God and logic, for it is no different than our relationship with logic. Logic is logic. There is not one version of it for God, another for us.

That is because logic can only be discovered, never created. Given the basic definitions of the integers and arithmetic, God cannot declare that 2+2=5 any more than you can.
